| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2022 | 15 The Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Committee is comprised of volunteer residents with varied skill sets and business backgrounds. Together we research, collaborate, and brainstorm. Our focus is always on making SLCC more enjoyable for all of us while enhancing revenue to our own Restaurant and Lounge. We are proud to announce that we have added two new volunteers to our Committee. We are back to a full house. Both new volunteers have extensive Restaurant and Lounge backgrounds and experience to add and enhance our already well experienced committee. Thank you and congratulations to our July comment card winner Cindy Cross. Keep the comments coming. We will announce future card winners each month. Remember good or bad, we encourage and look forward to your thoughts and opinions. I hope you participated in the lottery for our Oct. 2 Chef 's Table. These special nights sell out quickly. We will have others, so pay attention and join the lottery. BOO! It;s Halloween month already. Sheesh! Times a-flyin or was that a broom going by? Chef Chris has put together some enticingly ghoulish fun Halloween, or I mean October, specials including Octoberfest (Oct. 15, 5 to 9 pm) on the Veranda including all things German with a delicious buffet, music, and drinks. Remember, all of our special buffets are pre-sale ticket dinners. Call the restaurant hostess, book your reservations, and purchase your tickets early at (951) 769-6654. By now you've been rooting for your favorite football teams on Monday nights in the Lounge from 4:30 to 9 pm. Fun, Fun, Fun! Here's a little trivia… beginning in 1970 (coinciding with the completion of a merger between the NFL and AFL), Pete Rozelle concentrated on signing a weekly Monday night deal with one of the three major networks. After repeated reluctance from NBC and CBS, Rozelle spoke with ABC. ABC network's status at the time was the absolute lowest-rated. ABC was also reluctant thinking it a risky venture. Only after Rozelle threatened to sign a deal with independent Hughes Sports Network, entirely bankrolled by reclusive businessman Howard Hughes, did ABC sign a contract for the scheduled games. Speculation was that had Rozelle signed with Hughes, many ABC affiliates would have pre-empted the network's Monday lineup in favor of the games, severely damaging potential ratings. After the final contract for Monday Night Football was signed, on ABC Sports producer immediately saw possibilities for the program. He set out to create an entertainment "spectacle." He ordered twice the usual number of cameras covering the games, expanded the regular two-man broadcasting booth to three, and used extensive graphic design within the show as well as the favored, instant replay. These broadcasts became a tremendously popular American sports institution, one more game to give fans a reason to make it through the Monday workday. Don't forget, there are lots of special upcoming events to look forward to. We will have Greek Night on Nov. 5, Thanksgiving, and various holiday festivities, including our opportunity to order a complete meal that can be picked up the day before to enjoy at home. Don't forget, mark your calendars; Chef 's Brunch Extraordinaire is always on the last Sunday each month. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports
