FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2022 13 All cabins had balconies and came equipped with snorkeling gear. There is an Expedition staff on board, and every evening there was a Destination Briefing. Every day, there were options for kayaking, snorkeling, nature walks, adventure hikes, Zodiac tours, cooking classes, beach time, and special tours. This ship also visited North Seymour Island; Sullivan Bay, Santiago; Punta Mangle, Fernandina; Punta Moreno, Isabela; Santa Cruz Island; Santa Fe Island; Bahia Gardner, Espanola; and Punta Suarez, Espanola. There were kayaking briefings and snorkeling lessons for beginners. The passengers were divided into two groups and provided staggered start times for each activity. A Daily Schedule was placed in your cabin every evening so you could plan your day. The ship's photographer accompanied the groups on the hikes, but most people brought their own cameras. At the end of the cruise, he presented his photos and each passenger was given a flash drive of his presentation. Everywhere we looked we saw iconic and unique animals. They had no fear of humans and I actually had to be careful not to step on them at times! On Genovesa, we saw Red-footed Boobies; many on nests, and some with babies. We also saw some Darwin Finches. The Great Frigate birds were amazing. The males on the ground displayed their bright red throat balloons to attract the females. Brown Pelicans soared overhead and some landed just below my balcony on the ship. The Galapagos Sea Lions were unafraid of humans and were so numerous on one beach, it was impossible to keep the recommended distance of six feet. On North Seymour and Santiago Islands, the Land Iguanas and the Marine Iguanas were numerous and the Blue-footed Boobies were everywhere. We witnessed some male courting behaviors, some nesting females, and some chicks just starting to move around. We also managed to fit in a visit to Santa Cruz Island at the Montemar Tortoise Reserve and Coffee Experience. Back on San Cristobal Island, we visited an amazing Giant Tortoise Breeding Center, then went into town for some shopping. We had one last time to go ashore to enjoy the beach at Cerro Brujo. The next morning we flew back to Guayaquil and the Hotel Del Parque. This was a fairly physically demanding trip with an ambitious schedule but a once- in-a-lifetime experience I will not soon forget. It took me several days to feel rested and recovered, so now I understand why my travel agent advised me to book this trip sooner than later. ~ Edited by Elizabeth Westbrook Ollantaytambo- deciding to climb and explore the ruins of this ancient Inca fortress Lunch at the Peruvian ranch in the Sacred Valley Llamas and alpacas roam freely through the ruins at Machu Picchu Sandy in front of the ruins and Huayna Picchu peak
