Hallelujah! After more than two years of planning and construction,
the four new shuffleboard courts are completed and we are playing
on them. There are still a few minor details that I am trying to work
out, but the new courts are great! By the time you read this article,
the new winter hours have started, which means that we are now still
playing shuffleboard on Monday and Saturday mornings, but at 9
am instead of 8 am. In case you don't know where the new courts
are, they are located where the old horseshoe pits were at The Lodge,
behind the swimming pool and next to the paddle tennis courts. We
now have our own somewhat shaded North/South courts in a lovely
isolated area that is designated only for shuffleboard.
Shuffleboard is the perfect activity to enjoy outdoors while being
physically active. It is an easy game to learn and one can become
proficient at playing fairly quickly. Our games usually last about one
hour. We choose up different teams every time we play, which allows
us to keep competition challenging and the games interesting. We
play for fun, but, of course, everyone likes to win. We have a great
group of residents, who play regularly, and, of course, we are always
looking for new people to join our shuffleboard family. So after your
morning coffee and/or breakfast, come out and join us. Get some
fresh air and a little exercise while socializing with other like-minded
residents.
With our four new shuffleboard courts, we are especially excited
to welcome new players, or encourage some of our former players to
return.
