| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 | 15 Our primary objective is to make SLCC more enjoyable for all while enhancing revenue to our own Restaurant and Lounge. We welcome two new volunteers to our committee: Tom Hyatt and Ruth Bray both have extensive Food and Beverage background and experience. Our committee has combined experience of over 300 years! Thanks to all who submitted comment cards. Keep them coming. We encourage and look forward to your thoughts and opinions. We've received many positive and constructive comments as we continue to enhance our amenities' atmosphere, menus, and food and drink selections. Speaking of drinks, as we head into fall, why not try our Mixologist-Extraordinaire Matt's change of season cocktail: a "Falling For You Martini?" Think luscious caramel vodka, apple cider, and fresh apple… yum. Served in a racy martini glass or on the rocks. Or try the "Autumn-mule:" Jameson, garnish, and ginger beer served in a copper mug. We had to postpone the Chef 's Table dinner as we did not have sufficient member participation. We look forward to trying again. Chef 's Table is an exclusive, dining experience featuring a four- course fine-dining menu with wine pairings. These special nights sell out quickly. We will have others so stay tuned and join the lottery. One of our most raved about and requested events is "Greek Night." This year's will be Nov. 5 from 5 to 9 pm. The cost is $40 pp which includes tax and service charge. Imagine you've traveled to Greece, and enjoy delicious Greek food and drinks, listen and dance to a live Greek band, while watching the entertaining Folklore and Belly Dancers. RSVP in advance: (951) 769-6654. Fall is here and our Restaurant and Lounge is offering seasonal fare. Chef Chris has put together a bountiful Thanksgiving buffet on Thurs., Nov. 24 with two seatings. The first is 11 am to 1 pm and the second is 1 to 3:30 pm. Please call with your preference. There will be a turkey carving station, special pork loin, all the delicious traditional trimmings, plus pumpkin pie and an array of tasty desserts. Adults are $34.95 plus tax and gratuity. Children age 10 and under $16.95 plus tax and gratuity. Children age 5 and under are free. If you want to celebrate at home but don't want the hassle of cooking, order your dinners for pick up on Wed., Nov. 22, between 12 and 3 pm. Order complete meals with both white and dark meat and traditional sides, including pumpkin pie for $19.95 pp plus tax and gratuity. Warming instructions will be included; all you need do is set your table, serve and enjoy. A little trivia: These days, most celebrate Thanksgiving with turkey, pumpkin pie, and football. Did you know the first Thanksgiving took place in 1621 and that the foods served haven't changed much since then? In the U.S., football is a major part of many families' Thanksgiving celebrations. This tradition dates back to the first- ever football game between Yale and Princeton, held Thanksgiving Day 1876. Ever since, watching football is synonymous with Thanksgiving. Interesting to think one football game played in 1876 would have such a lasting impact. Virginia Woolf said, "One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." Look forward to our Dec. 1 Tree Lighting and our Dec. 16 Holiday party, just to name two. "Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." Until next month, be safe, thankful, and happy living in beautiful Sun Lakes Country Club. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports Have you met Desire Brown? She is one of our very upbeat standouts in the Restaurant. She spreads good vibes to those she works with at the Restaurant, as well as with all the members she feels privileged to meet, greet, and serve. Desire is used to working large private parties and events at select wineries and fine dining Restaurants in nearby Temecula. She loves all the new friendships she has made with members here and believes that people come into your life for a reason. She is eager to meet new people and enjoy each new connection she's made here. Desire enjoys dancing, being active in sports like soccer and basketball, working out at the gym, and modeling. All of these activities are secondary to the enjoyment she gets from lots of fun activities she creates and shares with the love of her life - little Miss Delilah, her daughter. I think all those who have met Desire can agree she is a great addition to our SLCC family. Sun Lakes Standouts: Recognizing Those Who Serve Have you met Konnie with a "K" Becerra? Her father wanted all his daughters' names to start with "K," hence Konnie. I believe Konnie is SLCC longest Restaurant employee (21 years). A true Banning local, she was born at San Gorgonio hospital and raised right here in Banning. She comes from a family of six sisters. Konnie writes music and sings with two of her sisters. This trio has been singing in church since Konnie was just a little girl and they still perform for special church events. Being an avid animal lover, particularly of dogs, she used to dream of having a rescue facility for homeless and abandoned dogs. She currently has four fur babies of her own and three brand- new puppies. They bring her joy but not nearly the joy she gets from spending time with her family. She has three grown children and love, love, loves hanging out with her two beautiful great-granddaughters. Can you believe it — Konnie has great-granddaughters? Thank you, Konnie, for your continued dependability and loyalty to our Sun Lakes family. ~ Carole Elliott
