Shirley May Murg passed away peacefully at her home on August 29, 2022, two weeks after her 92nd birthday. She was able to call and visit with family and friends those last two weeks as she was always so social and wanted to make sure that everyone was doing well. She was born and raised in Michigan where she met her husband of 53 years, Fred Murg. They moved to California in 1953 where they raised their three children in Fountain Valley. Shirley enjoyed working as a Loan Officer at Union Bank in Orange for 25 years and made lifelong friends there. She retired and moved to Sun Lakes in 1990 where she and her husband Fred enjoyed their retirement traveling and the entertainment and dancing at the Clubhouse where Shirley loved socializing and volunteering for the Sun Lakes Theatre Group. She will be remembered for her loving, kind personality and her wonderful sense of humor. Shirley "never met a stranger." Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Fred Murg and survived by her children, Kathy Anderson, Robert Murg and Cheri Walker, and by her grandson Aaron Murg and his wife Katie and granddaughter Briana Anderson. Christina Watson Smithberg passed away on August 16, 2022 after a brief illness, a day before her 78th birthday. She had been a resident of Sun Lakes since 2014. Christina was born on August 17, 1944 in Hartford, Connecticut to Al and Pricilla Watson. She married John Connelly on August 19, 1967 after graduating from Beaver College the same year. Later, she completed her Master's degree in Education from Arcadia University. Christina was a lifelong teacher with an extensive career as an elementary and secondary teacher. She also served as Vice Principal of El Roble Middle School in Claremont, California. She is survived by her three children, Rachel Mickelson, David and Robert Connelly, and four grandsons. Their names are Benjamin and Ryan Mickelson; and Nolan and Oliver Connelly. Also surviving are her two brothers, Kimball and Alex Watson. Christina spent her retirement years creating amazing art in many multiple formats that included painting, needlepoint, jewelry making, art quilts, painting fabric, gardening and scrapbooking. Her art quilts have been featured in Art for Heaven's Sake, Pass Patchers Quilt Club, Diamond Valley Quilt Club and Visions Quilt Museum. They have also been displayed at Temecula City Hall and Vision Quest Gallery in Yucaipa, California. She has won numerous awards for her art quilts. Most recently featured in Art Studio Quilting Magazine in 2019 with an award winning original designed rooster made from heirloom Scottish silk ties from her father, Alexander Watson. One of her many ways of showing love to her grandchildren was through her art and most especially through her quilts. She shared her love of sewing by helping the grandchildren design their own stuffed animals, learn how to draw, and paint. In addition to being dedicated to her artwork, she was loved by her family and was always there for birthdays, weddings and graduations. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 | 69
