6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2022 | We hear every day that Sun Lakers are getting better at obeying the rules and regulations. Is that really true? I don't think so. We still have drivers running the stop signs. We still have drivers speeding on our streets that are clearly marked with the speed limit. The worst violations occur in the golf cart. Sun Lakers believe when they are behind the wheel of a golf cart they are free to do anything they want. NOT TRUE! Sun Lakes Blvd. is a public street; your golf cart must be "street legal" to drive on it. According to the Banning City Ordinances, we can go from the North Side to the South side of Sun Lakes or vice versa only through gate three and gate four. If you are not "street legal" you cannot use the Main Gate or Gate two to cross to the other side. Yet, we see Sun Lakers driving on Sun Lakes Blvd. every day going from the Main Gate to gate two or gate four. Obviously, Sun Lakers cannot go to Sun Lakes Village shopping if they are not authorized to drive on the streets. Many will say, they have a permit to drive on Beaumont streets. That might be true, but they do not have approval to drive on Banning streets, so how are they going to get from our complex to Beaumont? We have an area used as a dog park outside of gate three. Everyday there is parking on Sun Lakes Blvd. On a closer look, there are "no parking" signs on the entire span of Sun Lakes Blvd. We are told one of these days Banning Police Department will begin patrolling Sun Lakes Blvd. Everyone is open to a citation if you park on the Blvd. Because you were allowed to apply for a handicap flag at Sun Lakes, it does not allow you to park in official handicap locations. The only privileges it allows are those on the golf course. Stay out of the handicap marked locations or our security will cite you. Sun Lakes HOA allows the residents to drive golf carts on the streets. Therefore golf carts and automobiles use the streets to travel around our complex. However, we should extend common courtesy to each other. If you cannot maintain the speed limit on our streets with your golf cart, it is only common courtesy to move to the right and allow other faster golf carts and automobiles to pass you. When playing golf and crossing the street from one hole to another, please notice that each crossing has a stop sign at the street. That means STOP. If you charge into the street, you might get hit by another vehicle. Residents in vehicles or golf carts should not stop for golf carts at the golf course crossings; you could be rear-ended and it would be your fault. Common courtesy always pays off.
