46 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2022 This is the perspective of the artist of the month, M.J. Newcomer: Vincent Van Gogh said, "If you have a voice within you say, 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." Helpful words for one who ventured into visual arts late in the game. The painting shown here is my first painting using acrylics. The subject is the rock house my mother grew up in, and the house my grandmother raised 10 children in. This house has been the subject of many photos and paintings, all of which keep the house in the center of the picture. In my painting, I wanted the prairie to take up the majority of the picture. Part of the fun of painting is making creative decisions. I'm discovering all sorts of magic while painting. Creating a certain shade of blue, learning how to show dimension on a flat surface, feeling everything fall away from my thoughts except, "which brush now", "how much yellow", or "what kind of pressure is needed to make a strand of grass". We all have a capacity for creativity. Fortunately, we also have an art class here at Four Seasons where you will find support and encouragement from the instructor and all the artists there. Classes are Mondays 10 am to 12 noon and/or Wednesdays 6 to 8 pm. There is a nominal $5 fee per person, per session. If you have any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman Mixed Media Arts At our November meeting, we voted on new officers, Pat Wayne as Chairperson, Claudia Rozzi as Treasurer, Laurie Naliboff as Secretary, and Marianne Bugni as PAC Coordinator. We all enjoyed pizza, salad, and dessert, and were entertained by Tom Olson. Our next meeting is Monday, Dec. 12 at 6 pm in the RCN Main Room. We may do some Christmas caroling with the Merry Minstrels. For celebration, bring your favorite holiday cookies or dessert. And, of course, your beverage too. PAC Merry Minstrels will be strolling the community (see below). If you are interested in having us sing at your house, there will be a sign-up sheet at The Lodge desk. Please note the article in the Breeze. For any newcomers to Four Seasons, we support volunteers from our community who love to perform through many avenues: singing, acting, tech, staging, producing, etc. Our goal is to offer three to four live events on stage annually. These shows are all free to our residents. We are also working on possible one-night events as the schedule permits. You also can enjoy the Four Seasons Bell Choir and their upcoming December concert. Come to the next PAC meeting to share your ideas and input. Get on the mailing list if you are not already. Any questions or you wish to be involved, contact Marianne Bugni, PAC Chairperson, at (920) 517-2739 or email lamarib77@gmail.com. Happy holidays! ~ Marianne Bugni Performing Arts Club Hello neighbors! Did you know Four Seasons has a merry band of musical minstrel neighbors who want to entertain you this winter holiday season? We will be singing in The Lodge Lobby the first weekend of December at approximately 5:30 to 6 pm right before the scheduled shows in the Ballroom, Dec. 2, 3, and 4. In addition, we will be taking our talents to the streets throughout December to sing carols and entertain our neighbors in the early evening hours at their front doors. If you are interested in having us stop at your house or stroll your neighborhood, please call The Lodge at (951) 769-6358 to put in your request for the Merry Minstrels to stop by your house before Santa does. Happy holidays. ~ Marianne Bugni, (920) 517- 2739 PAC supported Four Seasons Merry Minstrels
