HAPPY N E W Y E A R ! | LIFE IN SOLERA | JANUARY 2023 | 3 FROM THE BOARD By Marcia Casem Happy New Year to all Solera residents and their families from your Board of Directors. We hope everyone enjoys good health and happiness during this new year. 2022 was filled with many ups and downs: the downsides include a lack of a usable floor in the Oakmont rooms, not having the pool repairs completed prior to April, not being able to get items fixed or replaced due to supply chain issues… the list goes on. There were many positives in 2022 as well, such as obtaining a new General Manager who has the ball rolling on many items: A new drinking fountain was installed, pool repairs will be made in January, the floors in the Oakmont rooms were made usable (even though temporary until new floors are chosen), code enforcement is being performed, new billiards tables have been ordered, and new activities are being held for the residents. The Board is planning a Strategic Planning Town Hall Meeting for January. The date will be announced soon. We encourage residents to think about improvements and new items to present. A list will be made and prioritized to either complete this fiscal year or plan for in the next fiscal year's budget, with the understanding that not all items will be accepted for consideration. The Town Hall Meeting form will be used to organize the items presented. Please complete a form in advance; if you cannot, these will be available at the meeting. The parking lot at the Clubhouse is being scheduled for a complete removal, with a new one to be installed. If the timing has not already been announced, it soon will be. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause while parking to attend events and retrieve mail, but this is a much- needed project, with the benefits being both economical and practical. We will be able to see the striping for spaces and directions; the appearance protects the value of our properties and provides safety for pedestrians walking through or across the lot. Pat King, Marcia Casem, Merele Chapman, and Monica Munoz are working with a Landscape Architect for a renovation of our Greenbelt. This is a huge project which will be completed is phases over a few years. We are taking into consideration activity areas, concert on the greens area, walking paths, drought-tolerant plants, and turf coverage. There are many components to this project — by reducing the water usage and partial conversion to drought-tolerant plants, we will be able to take part in a grant which may allow us to recover up to half of the cost of the project. Pat has been instrumental in getting the prospect of a grant to become reality. We appreciate her time and effort for this project. The Board and Management appreciate the comments submitted through Message to Management. We want to thank you for speaking out and caring about our community. We are trying to ensure that our lines of communication are improved by supporting the Communication and Technology Advisory Committee. We encourage members to attend our monthly Open Session Board Meetings held the third Wednesday of each month, except December, unless needed. Thank you for your support and commitment to Solera Oak Valley Greens, and have a wonderful new year.
