| THE COLONY NEWS | JANUARY 2023 | 33 | THE COLONY NEWS | JANUARY 2023 | 33 Petal Pushers Garden Club By Jane Payne, 909-455-2253 Are you confused about what goes in your trash, recycling, and green bins? Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 1 pm in the Auditorium as representatives from the City of Murrieta and Riverside County discuss SB 1383. This law requires Californians to separate collected food scraps, yard debris and food-soiled paper from trash for organics recycling. We will have Louie Lacasella from the City of Murrieta Environmental Programs explain how and what will go in your different bins. He oversees the waste hauler (Waste Management, Inc.) who provides curbside waste and recycling service. Mike Perez, Volunteer Coordinator and Master Composter at Riverside County Department of Waste Resources, will discuss their recycling programs like Household Hazardous Waste collection and home composting, to help us be more sustainable and extend the life of the county landfills. Mike is also a Master Composter and will give us information about composting and the county-wide program to help residents. After the presentations, there will be a question-and-answer period. We hope you can join us and learn how to embrace this conservation effort. For any information about the meeting, contact me at the above number or janepayne3@verizon.net. On Jan. 11 we will be discussing Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. The book is a Pulitzer Prize winning autobiography of an Irish ex-patriot and his family. They try against all odds to escape the poverty endemic in the slums of pre-war Limerick, Ireland. We meet in the Clubhouse Meeting Room on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am. If you enjoy reading, we invite you to join us. You are welcome to sit in on a discussion to see if this is something you would be interested in.
