Dec. 2 was the scheduled day for the monthly Paddle Tennis tournament. The final score: Mother Nature 1, Paddle Tennis players 0. An early morning shower flooded the courts which forced us to cancel. Sharon Smith and Wendel Jackson, our Tournament hosts, moved their breakfast indoors and were quickly followed by participants from the tournament. The December Racquet Club dinner was hosted by Linda Kight and Sharon Smith. Racquet Club members were treated to a fantastic prime rib and chicken dinner and entertained by our own Colony Ukulele Strummers who were accompanied by our own Dr. P, Kevin Petka, on piano. Sharon Boll hosted the Ladies Potluck luncheon at her house on Dec. 14. The theme was Toys for Tots and all the attendees brought gifts for the children. As usual, Sharon's house was beautifully decorated. Racquet Club By Karen Nichols, 619-550-8194 Happy New Year! We're headed for another fabulous year full of fun, adventure and pickleball! If one of your resolutions is to get in shape or have fun or meet new friends, welcome to the pickleball family. We are on the courts each morning beginning at 7:30. If you're new to the game, I would be very happy to meet with you morning, noon or night to teach you the basics of the game. The lessons, paddles and ball are all free of charge. Call me at the above number to schedule lessons; bring your smiles and head to the courts! On Dec. 3, we held our final tournament of the year. For the first time, there were 16 players who participated in mixed doubles and four who participated in the men's division. Four mixed doubles partners won in straight games: Kathy Lewis and Gregg Ross; Harriet Henderson and Leo Alonzo; CeCe and Chuck Gordon; and Jamie Calvert and Larry Fimon. Congratulations to all of the players for great games and hours of fun. Our next tournament is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, Jan. 7. Hope to see you there!
