FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2023 37 In 1966, Dr. Maulana Karenga launched Kwanzaa to help African Americans learn about our African history, culture, and customs. It is a non-religious holiday that honors African-American people and our heritage and is celebrated Dec. 26 through Jan. 1. In our December meeting, we learned more about Kwanzaa, celebrated our culture, played games, and enjoyed light refreshments. Reminiscing this past year, we are reminded of our Mission Statement: individuals getting together with like interests to develop a broader sense of community spirit, well being, and a deeper sense of fellowship. If this appeals to you, please join us as all are always welcome. Happy New Year! Be blessed, stay safe, try something new, and take a little time to enjoy the beauty of our Four Seasons community. The African American Cultural Club meets on the first Monday of the month at 6 pm in The Lodge Game Room. All are invited to attend for fellowship and learn about African American culture. Our next meeting is Monday, Jan. 9, 2023. If you have any questions, please contact the AACC President, Wanda Valentine, at (951) 544-1606. ~ Jane Gentry African American Cultural Club Beautiful Kwanzaa quilt AACC members Betty Ann James, Jane Gentry, and Elaine Brown enjoying some Kwanzaa refreshments We are looking forward to 2023 when we will offer free speaker events by master gardeners in order to support you in a successful home garden. Mark your calendars for Jan. 21 and March 18 at 10 am in the RCN and check the Activities Blast for the topics as we get closer. On May 20, we will host a home garden tour so that you can visit and experience all sizes and types of successful gardens by your neighbors. We are establishing a sub-committee for anyone interested in establishing a Community Garden here in Four Seasons. Stay tuned for an announcement of an orientation meeting in the new year.
