FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2023 41 Classic Film Group The Birds is coming on Jan. 24, 2023 to The Lodge Theater at 6 pm and a second showing on Feb. 7, 2023. The Birds falls into several genres: drama, horror, mystery, romance, and thriller. Melanie Daniels(Tippi Hedren) is the modern rich socialite, part of the jet-set who always gets what she wants. Lawyer Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) sees her in a pet shop where he has come to buy some birds for his young sister. They have a conflict and he plays something of a practical joke on her; she decides to return the favor. She travels up to a small town to see him again, about an hour north of San Francisco to Bodega Bay, where Mitch spends the weekends with his mother Lydia (Jessica Tandy) and younger sister Cathy (Veronia Cartwright). A seagull attacks Melanie as she is crossing the bay in a small boat, and, soon after her arrival, birds in the area begin to act strangely, Birds in the hundreds and thousands are attacking anyone they find out of doors — and even indoors. There is no explanation as to why this might be happening, and as the birds continue their vicious attacks, survival becomes the priority… the next scream you hear could be your own! NOTE: The Birds was partly inspired by the true events of a massive bird attack on the seaside town of Capitola in California on Aug. 18, 1961. ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@ gmail.com The club has screenings on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. We screen films you won't find at the big Cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films and other little gems that don't get wide release. Our first screening for the month, on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 6 pm, is the film Where the Crawdads Sing (USA 2022, 2 hrs. 5 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Abandoned by her family, Kya Clark, otherwise known to the townspeople of Barkley Cove as the Marsh Girl, is mysterious and wild. Where the Crawdads Sing is a coming-of-age story of a young girl raised by the marshlands of the south in the 1950s. When the town hotshot is found dead, and inexplicably linked to Kya, the Marsh Girl is the prime suspect in his murder case." Our second screening for the month, on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 6 pm, is the film Six by Sondheim (USA 2013, 1 hr. 26 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb. com: "An intimate and candid look at the life and art of the legendary composer-lyricist." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability.
