Village Vets
Thank you for such a great turnout, and Village Vet's Club sign-ups on Do Dues
Day. We have many great programs planned. If you haven't joined us yet, you don't
have to be a Vet to support our activities throughout the year. Our annual Dues are
$10 pp, and we will be glad to have you with us.
At our recent Village Vet's General January Meeting we featured as our speaker, the
new President of the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, retired US Army Major
General Peggy Combs. She spoke about a number of issues that were relevant in our
current times. Her talk was well received by our attendees.
For our next Village Vet's General Meeting, March 23rd in Abravenal Hall at 3
pm, we are planning to have Tommy Moore, a veteran and Community Outreach
Representative and currently an active-duty Navy Chief, to talk about the Shelter to
Soldier organization.
Shelter to Soldier™ is a CA 501c3 nonprofit organization, in Oceanside that adopts
dogs from local shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for
post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or other injuries associated with traumatic service
experiences. Every day, 20 US veterans and one active-duty service member are lost
to suicide. The organization is intent on reducing the number of suicides and saving
the lives of dogs in local shelters. Their motto is "Saving lives two at a time".
We expect Tommy will have his certified therapy dog and Canine Ambassador for
STS "Moose" with him. Of course, refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited.
