| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2023 | 33 The RV Club members started the year with great enthusiasm as 27 RVs drove a short way up the coast to the Newport Dunes RV Resort the second week in January. The normally expensive RV Park, located adjacent to the beach, offers economical winter rates which has encouraged good participation by our members. There was lots to do and see in the area and a great way to start the New Year. On March 4, the club is offering a seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise on the brand-new Princess Discovery, sailing from San Pedro. Space is still available for those interested! Early in April, 20 RVs will camp locally at the recently renovated Guajome County Campground here in Oceanside. Large, shaded sites, great walking trails and a scenic duck pond will provide a relaxing few days. The late April trip to Paso Robles / Petaluma should be fun. A catered dinner in the Eberle Wine Cave will be a highlight! Of course, wineries are on the docket in this highly respected wine country. A walking tour of Petaluma and a day to explore San Francisco will help acquaint members with the area. The Bishop Mule Days is a well-known festival which celebrates the contributions of the mule. Our RVers will travel there May 24-27 to watch the traditional events of the Old West. In late June/early July, a long distance trip will take our RVers across the Canadian border to the scenic Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta. Space is still open on this one. So, it is quite a busy schedule for the first half of the year. To celebrate the end of 2022, our social committee planned an extravagant holiday party in Abravanel Hall (see photo above). They decorated and lit the hall, the tables and stage elegantly. The lively and talented husband and wife band got people dancing with music from several decades plus seasonal favorites. The catered dinner was delicious, and the mood was happy and gay. A very festive party! Unfortunately, Tatis Cervantes Akin, who worked incredibly hard in the planning and execution of her final event as VP of Social, contracted Covid shortly before the event so she could not attend. A real injustice! Thanks for a great year, Tatis! Skip Harvey passed the title of President to his successor Roger Marr. Skip and Jan Lopez were each honored for their respective terms as club President. Additionally, five Past Presidents who are still RV Club members were recognized and honored. We thank Skip for all his good work and achievements in 2022 and welcome Roger and wish him well at the reins for 2023! RV Club Inspiration Hill As we walk the trail at Inspiration Hill, we are always impressed by the varied community inspirations as expressed on the Donor Bricks. The trail begins by honoring our pioneer OHCC Founders, and continues with those who so bravely served us. There are bricks honoring family members, beloved pets, and favorite universities. What is your inspiration? The HOA continues to take orders for your own personalized bricks. Fill out an order form at the HOA office, and include a check for $75. Your inspiration brick will help line the trail to the top of the hill! Photo by Al Fried
