FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2023 45
Let's Dance!
March spotlights the "Dance of
Love…" the Rumba! This dance is
a "spot" dance which means it does
not travel around the floor as, for
example, a Country Western Two
Step does.
Learning rumba is not difficult.
The ease of learning is actually one
of the main reasons why it's more
popular today than most other Latin
dances. Once you learn the simple
steps, the music does the rest.
As a Latin dance, the rumba
originated in Cuba in the early 1920s.
The word rumba comes from the
Spanish origin rumbear which means
to party or go out on the town. By the
1930s, the rumba had made its way
to the dance halls of New York and
Los Angeles, becoming a standard on
the ballroom dance scene.
Below are some familiar songs to dance the
rumba!
• And I Love Her - The Beatles
• It's Now or Never - Elvis Presley
• I'm Not Giving You Up - Gloria Estefan
• Besame Mucho - Xavier Cugat
• Falling Into You - Celine Dion
• Neon Moon - Brooks and Dunn
• Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
• Kokomo - Beach Boys
• Girl from Ipanema - Frank Sinatra
