Art Lovers Welcome neighbors to the Art Studio display featuring the creations of fledgling watercolor artists… proof that it's never too late to learn something new and/or to discover or develop a hidden talent. For your pleasure, you will find a showing of work by artists, a few who have only just begun to paint in watercolor along with several who have been painting longer. They paint under the guidance of Cindi DeWeese and Shellie Bean. Come check out their work and give yourself the opportunity to reveal your own creative self! You will enjoy the beautiful paintings of your "artsie" neighbors (listed alphabetically by first name): Barbara Miller, Bob Jones, Cindi DeWeese, Colleen Moskal, Kathy LeVeck, Kim Murray, Lorraine Kleeman, Sarah Kolb, Shellie Bean, and Tatis Cervantes Aiken. The display ranges from watercolor paintings of birds and horses, to scenery, and from portraits to florals. The visit to the Art Studio will be worth your time. If you have an artistic talent you would like to share, please contact Judy Harris or Lainy Vinikow. We would like to add your artistry to our schedule. 26 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2023 | Art Room Our trip to the Bowers Museum to experience the Guo Pei Fantasy Couture collection was a real delight. Each gown whether wearable or not is a work of art. In Guo Pei's magical creations, she uses ostrich features, intricate embroidery, jewels, tulle, sequins and gold thread among other exotic elements. One gown is fashioned out of small pieces of blue plastic. There are three simpler dresses of a more traditional Chinese style, one with a charming pagoda design. Showing traditional Chinese craftsmanship while incorporating contemporary innovation and Western style, Guo Pei is a passionate artisan who wants to inspire people through her art. To see more of these exquisite gowns please visit our website at http://ohccartlovers. wixsite.com/art-lovers. February brought us our Members' Treasures meeting where our members bring items to show and describe why they are important to them. These can be anything from art work, mementos, jewelry, pottery, special collections, and statuary. This is always one of our favorite meetings as we really enjoy hearing the stories accompanying these "treasures." We are excitedly anticipating our tour of Beyond King Tut, an immersive exhibit at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on Tues., March 21. Presented by National Geographic, Beyond King Tut is a walk-through exhibition where films and animations are projected on the walls and floors of the building in several galleries. They tell the story of King Tut who briefly ruled Egypt 3,300 years ago for only eight or nine years. He died at the age of 19 possibly of malaria. The films also show us the lives of the gods that the ancient Egyptians worshipped and how they buried their pharaohs in splendor believing they would have a better afterlife. You will embark on a breathtaking voyage to the afterlife of the great pharaohs. The exhibition features several hands-on exhibits and games, truly a multi-sensory journey. What made King Tut the world's most famous pharaoh was that his tomb wasn't discovered until 1922 and was completely undisturbed. The treasures within the tomb gave the world a clearer picture of his incredible wealth. King Tut's treasures are still considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in history. Our president, Susan Pick has negotiated a special senior tour price of $25 each.
