| THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2023 | 31 | THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2023 | 31 Unfortunately, our workshop with Betty Pilley in February had to be canceled. We plan to have workshops later in the year, which I know will be a new experience for many of you. Our March class will be something in floral, with wet into wet and wet into dry techniques. Colors needed will be Payne's Gray, violets, pinks, sap green, and a darker green, or you may wish to use different colors for your painting. Prussian blue is always a good color to add, in addition to cobalt and cerulean blues. Please remember to bring masking tape and foam board to attach your paper for painting, unless you use a block of watercolor paper. Also, for those of you with pan paints, remember to spritz them with a spray of water before class so you can achieve more intense color. I must say, after our January class, I was very pleased to see how well all our new people did on their very first watercolor painting. As you can see from our class picture, you really did a great job! Most of all, everyone had fun and that is what it is all about. I'll see you all in class in March! Keep painting. Watercolor Classes By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 Janice Blair is a self-taught bobbin lace, tatting and needle lace maker and has been designing and making lace for over 20 years. Her work has been published in Lace magazines, including internationally in several countries. Janice has received many awards and Best of Division from the San Diego County Fair. There is a gallery of her prize-winning designs on her website at www.jblace.com, as well as simple designs for beginners that are available free of charge. Facebook shows many new lace makers starting to do bobbin lace, so it is no longer a dying art. Some of Janice's pieces take well over 400 hours to complete.
