Wine Club By Sharon Evans, 951 445-3861 The Colony Cousins Genealogy Club is pleased to again have Laurice Johnson as our speaker for our monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 14, at 1 pm in the Annex. Laurice is a very active member of the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society. She is currently their Education Director, and also belongs to their Writer's Group. She is an advanced genealogist with over 30 years of experience and has spoken at our club several times. We are always eager to invite her back. Laurice's presentation is "Census Records from the United States (Federal and States) and Other Countries." There is so much information in the census records, and it is important to know how to access it, how to search, and what to look for. The 1950 Federal Census was the most recent one released. Have you checked it out? Are you new to genealogy or need some help? Several members of our club are willing to help you. Our meetings start promptly at 1 pm, so please plan to arrive in time to sign in. Visitors are welcome to attend and join our club, if interested. For more information, call Lennie Martin at (503) 269-9987. Genealogy By Kathleen Brown, 951-698-5244 Please join us in the Meeting Room at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 8, as we discuss the insightful, emotional, and thought-provoking novel Beartown by bestselling author Fredrik Backman. Beartown is a small, failing town in the northern forests of Sweden that has pinned its hopes on the shoulders of their junior hockey team. But Beartown is about so much more than a town and a game. It's about the responsibilities and burdens of parenthood, and the ripple effect of parenting missteps; it's about belonging; it's about the tremendous power, both positive and negative, of friendship. It's the hopes that bring a community together, the secrets that tear it apart, and the courage it takes for someone to go against the grain. And if you like to read ahead, our April book selection is The Second Mrs. Astor by Shana Abe. Book Readers By Maggie Olson, 574-252-1679 32 | THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2023 |
