| THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2023 | 3 From the Desk of Pat Kight By Pat Kight, Director Happy (upcoming) Mother's Day to all the mothers here in The Colony. What a beautiful time of year. As you know, I was selected to fill in the last year of Jim Nash's term that expires this fall. Since I was selected by the Board, folks didn't get a chance to get to know me through the usual election process, so I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in SoCal, and after returning from Vietnam, my family and I moved to Redding, CA (north of Sacramento) in 1971. I became very active in the community during my 34 years there. I served on various Boards (Shasta County Arts Council, Shasta Builders Exchange, Shasta County Economic Development Corp., etc.). In 1981, I founded the Riverfront Playhouse, now in its 42nd year and thriving thanks to the many dedicated volunteers who keep the vision alive. In the early 90s, I was appointed to the Shasta County Planning Commission where I served for seven years. In 1998, I was elected to the Redding City Council where I served as a council member and mayor. I was reelected in 2002 and served until 2005, when a career change brought me back to SoCal and I settled in Temecula. In 2009, I was appointed to the Temecula Planning Commission, where I served until moving to The Colony in 2015. (I know it's hard but try to stay awake. lol) I've always believed in trying to serve the communities in which I live. I feel incredibly blessed to live here and so very fortunate to serve on the HOA Board with an amazing group of your friends and neighbors. I will do my very best to serve you in a way that I have always served: openly, diligently and honestly. We may not always agree, but I will always be available to listen. Now let's all live harmoniously in this beautiful place we call home.
