30 | LIFE IN SOLERA | MAY 2023 |
BON APPETIT CLUB
Our April meeting was a great success. We had
Ross Carter, Culinary Instructor at Beaumont High
School, as our guest speaker. Ross demonstrated
how to debone a chicken, the knives to use and the uses
for each section of the chicken. By deboning a whole chicken, you
can save $1 to $2 or more per pound compared to buying packages
of the separate pieces. For those who were not at the meeting or
non-members, he provided a YouTube video that he said was very
informative: SO Simple You'll Always Do This Yourself! Pro Butcher
HOW TO Cut Up A CHICKEN - Glen and Friends. He made a Caesar
salad using parts of the breast meat and Teriyaki style chicken using
meat from the thighs and legs. In October, Julissa, also an instructor
in the program, will be coming to demonstrate
making desserts for the holidays.
The upcoming May meeting will be our annual
Cinco de Mayo party, catered by Tacos and Beer. There will
be street tacos, beans, rice, chips and a variety of salsas. There will
also be an area were you can dress up and have your picture taken.
Our June meeting will be the return of LOT22. They will be talking
about the pairing of olive oils and balsamic vinegars. More to come
next month.
Hope to see you all at our Cinco de Mayo party! ~ Pam Davidson,
