18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | Local area golf pros will be returning to Sun Lakes for Charity Week 2023. After a three-year absence due to COVID, amateur golfers are looking forward to the chance to once again play in a Pro-Am Tournament. The tournament will take place on Sun., June 11 with an 8:30 am shotgun start. The pro golfers participate in an individual-stroke competition while the amateurs compete in a Four-Man Scramble with help from the pros. This event is a quick sellout and is the main fundraiser for the Sun Lakes Charity Trust. While spectators are not allowed on the course for this event, there are plenty of vantage points from which to watch the action. On Sat., June 10, the day before the Pro-Am Tournament, Sun Lakes will hold a Pro-Am Shoot-Out with the first team teeing off at 9 am. The Shoot-Out starts on Championship hole #10 with 10 teams consisting of one pro and one amateur competing in an alternate shot format against the other nine teams. After each hole, one team with the highest score is eliminated. This continues until hole #18 where the final two remaining Pro-Am teams compete head-to-head to be declared 2023 Champions. All Sun Lakes residents and their guests are invited to attend and follow the action. This is a once- a-year opportunity for many residents to get their golf cart out on the course and see Sun Lakes from the other side of the wall. If you don't have a cart, you are invited to walk the course and follow the action. The event usually takes three to four hours so there are plenty of opportunities to view the action along the way. Golf Advisory Safety Advisory Securitas is reporting that resident pedestrians are frequently using the vehicle exit and entry gates for access to and from our Sun Lakes community INSTEAD OF USING THE PEDESTRIAN GATES. This is very dangerous and has become a safety issue. If you are leaving or entering Sun Lakes when walking, please use the PEDESTRIAN GATES. This is a huge safety concern at ALL the gates. We want to avoid potential accidents. The cities of Beaumont and Banning continue to see an increase in criminal activity in the last month. Police officers have reported more vehicle thefts, catalytic converter thefts, and homes being vandalized or broken into. In Sun Lakes there have been no thefts reported in the last 30 days. The homeless concerns around Sun Lakes continue to be monitored but are still problematic where security has limited access. The Safety Advisory Committee is working now in coordination with the Master Board to make proposals and recommendations for placement of speed humps, stop signs, and speed limit signs to help control speeding and traffic patterns in Sun Lakes. If any resident has suggestions for us, please contact your District Delegate or any of the Safety Advisory Committee members and we can incorporate your ideas into our proposals to the Master Board. As our weather warms, we expect many guests to visit Sun Lakes. Securitas will NOT have pool monitors but patrol will be doing hourly checks on the clubhouses and sub-association pools. Officers will be looking for outside alcoholic beverages at the Main Clubhouse pool and ask violators to remove drinks unless sold at the Clubhouse bar. Age restrictions will be enforced by having minors out of the pool by 2 pm. Also, residents will be asked to remove flotation devices not considered life-saving equipment. Signs in the pool areas explain the rules clearly. Please remember to: 1. Observe speed limits 2. Keep garage doors closed 3. Renew parking passes when necessary 4. Use pedestrian gates when entering or exiting SL when walking Sun Lakes Committee Reports Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes articles from the Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The LAC meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager, Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost, and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us when we have an opening, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Lifestyles Advisory
