| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2023 | 45 Swim & Wellness Club Members, have you signed up for the Pool Party? We'll gather poolside on Fri., June 16 at 11 am. There will be fun pool activities for all levels of participation. Ever wondered what happens in the Aqua fitness classes? You'll have the chance to join a mini- session and see what it's all about. There will be water games, noodle fun, and swim races. WEAR YOUR SWIMSUIT so you can join in the fun on the spur of the moment. Then, we'll move to Palm Court for a yummy taco lunch, catered by Taquizas Guadarrama - adobada, carne asada, chicken asado, beans, rice, quesadillas, and dessert. OH MY! Just $10 for members and you can bring a non-member guest for $12. RSVP by dropping off your check at the clubhouse by June 7. We hope you'll join us for this fun event. The early morning reservation system (proposed by the Community Services Committee and approved by the Master Board) has been in effect for a month and seems to be working. However, there are still a few people who don't adhere to the rules. Guests may NOT reserve a lane. If you have a guest with you, you may share your lane with that person. Also, each resident is allowed one 40-minute slot, four times per week. Some folks are reserving 80-minute slots. As our weather warms up, more residents will be using the pool and securing a lane will become more difficult. Please adhere to the rules so it's fair to all. Interested in joining the club? Drop off a check made out to the OHCC Swim & Wellness Club at the Clubhouse. Be sure to include name, address, phone and email. Being a S & W Club member gives you a front row seat to all things POOL related, as well as learning about wellness topics pertinent to our age group. Member Spotlight: Meet club member Ed Tasch. Ed was born and raised in St. Louis and earned a Psychology degree from the U of Missouri. He was drafted immediately after graduation and served two years in the Army. His time was spent in Vietnam as a Linguist Interpreter. After his discharge, he earned two more degrees, including a Master's in Counseling. He started out as a parole officer and that's where he met wife Karen, who was in the same field. Then he worked for the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse where he was their Executive Director for 34 years. Ed and Karen have two children and two grandchildren, who all live nearby. They moved to OHCC from St. Louis in 2016. Ed has always been a swimmer - he spent childhood summers at a local pool. He also played water polo while in the Army. When Ed discovered lap swimming, he quickly realized it was something he was capable of doing. He deals with several disabilities and he says that of all the exercises, swimming is the one thing he can do and "It's incredible exercise!" Ed is a strong advocate of a second pool at OHCC and serves on the Second Pool committee. He's a reader, a writer, and a golfer. He and Karen enjoy traveling and cruising. Meet Ed Tasch, club member and Second Pool Committee member Bring your checks to the Clubhouse desk. RSVP by June 7. Tai Chi originated in ancient China as one of its martial arts, the gentle one. It consists of exercises totally performed on one's feet while the body generally moves in serenity. Classes have been meeting at OHCC twice a week for almost a decade. The classes were initiated by Lai Mei and Dennis Strauss who still participate in them and keep track of their maintenance. There is no formal teaching, one learns and performs by following a video placed in front of the class. Tai Chi
