Our Tap and Jazz instructor, Yvonne Romano
has been teaching at OHCC since 2014 with her
first show in 2016, titled "Back to the Future."
Please enjoy reading a bit about her.
Yvonne started ballet and baton twirling at
age five. Her junior high teacher took notice
of her and encouraged her to take tap and jazz
classes; this was the beginning of her love of
dance. In high school they formed a group called
the pageant dancers who performed for the
Miss Tulare County Pageant. She even danced
in a movie pilot called Circus (remember our
last "Circus" recital? It must have stuck in her
head.) In college Yvonne marched in many
parades, including the Rose Parade. She owned
part of a competitive dance franchise, and even
performed with Bob Hope. She always wanted to
do that, but instead got married which launched
her career path.
Yvonne and her husband Paul have been
married for 22 years, live in Solana Beach and
have four children. For 25 years, she owned her
own dance studio, Dance Connection offering
Tap, Jazz, HipHop, Ballet and Cheerleading. She
ran her own Cheer team for five years with her
two daughters who taught most of the classes.
She offered dance instruction and choreography
for award winning dance teams, Pop Warner
cheer teams, and high school musicals.
Yvonne received her teacher's credentials from
Cal State San Marcos and delights in working
with all ages. She now teaches classes at several
retirement communities where she continues
finding her love for dance and believes everyone
has the potential of becoming a star! Yvonne
commented, "I love encouraging others to follow
their dreams and learn to love dance." We are
fortunate to have Yvonne as our instructor. You
should come meet her and give it a try. We invite
