30 | THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2023 | Actors Studio By Marsha Tobolski, 562-244-9223 Colony Chorus By Jeri Huestis Auditions have concluded, the cast has been chosen and now we begin preparing for our Irish Eyes Murder production to be presented in March of 2024! Still needed are understudies, technical and artistic positions, and other assistance in making this production a success. So, anyone who is interested in becoming part of a theatrical experience, please come to one of our meetings on the second Thursday of the month in the Card Room from 4 to 6 pm, or the fourth Thursday of each month in the Annex from 4 to 6 pm. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me, Greg Hill (951) 526-9896, or Chuck Gordon (661) 714-3847. Our heartfelt thanks for your wonderful support of our concert in April. We're looking forward to our next concert in December and anticipating participation of both new and returning members. We will be having a Meet & Greet on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 3 to 5 pm in the Lounge. Anyone who loves to sing is cordially invited to join us for snacks and drinks and to meet and mingle with chorus members — and to consider joining us! Musical training or choral experience is not required, and there are no auditions. Why should you join the Colony Chorus? We're a fun social group who likes to entertain our neighbors and families with our concerts. We enjoy gathering to lift our voices in song. We have a great director, Lorilee Bajema, who is a talented musician and experienced conductor, and who keeps us laughing with her wit and droll humor. She also stretches our musical wings and helps us become better singers. Our pianist and percussion accompanists are top notch. We get to sing both familiar favorites and fascinating new tunes. Song arrangements are creative, and there are solo and ensemble opportunities. The chorus has two concerts annually, one the last weekend in April and the other the first weekend in December. Both follow themes, which are chosen by the conductor and Chorus Board and guide the music, costumes and decorations. This fall our theme is "By Dickens, We're Scrooged," to provide a different take on Christmas music. Our first rehearsal will be Thursday, Sept. 7, from 9 to 11:15 am in the Auditorium. In addition to the regular weekly sessions, additional rehearsals are usually needed as the concert approaches. Membership dues are $25 per concert to cover cost of music, conductor and accompanists, decorations and social events. Come join your Colony neighbors to "sing like the angels — or at least like the birdies — sing!"
