FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2023 39 Heart & Soul Line Dance Why do I line dance? I have always loved dancing and enjoy being around people. When I discovered line dance as another form of dance, it motivated me to start teaching. It breaks me out of the regular routine of exercise. It's a social exercise. There are different levels and as you get better, you move on. Line dancing has become a sport enjoyed by dancers around the world. It's a unique and fun workout for the body, mind, and soul. The line dancing we do these days, called modern or urban dancing, originated from country, but we dance to all different types of music, whatever is popular on the radio these days. Line dancing is a group dance and no partner is necessary. Dancers form a line and do a repeated set of choreographed steps. While everyone is in a line or row, there is no physical contact with the other dancers, but you do dance together following the repeated steps at the same time. Line dancing involves low-impact cardiovascular exercise while remembering steps which require the need to think. It is a workout for the brain as much as it is for the body. Line dancing helps build balance and flexibility. It's a weight bearing exercise, so it helps to strengthen bones. It can help people with anxiety and depression. If you can get up off the chair and onto the dance floor, you are moving. And if you are moving, you are exercising. Heart and Soul Line Dance meets on Wednesdays, 4 to 6 pm in The Lodge Ballroom. All steps are broken down and repeated for memorization. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. We have novice to improver dances, and we always dish out plenty of encouragement. Any questions, please contact Priscilla Robles at (909) 239-6464. See you on the dance floor! ~ Priscilla Robles Step it Up Line Dancing Well, summer is finally here! We've got some really fun dances I've been teaching in the last few months and people are catching on so quickly now that they know the names of the steps and have been doing them for quite some time. Line dancing takes practice and repetition so you should commit to 30 days of learning so you truly understand how much fun it can be both physically and emotionally. We started a new class in June but if you're a quick learner, you can join us now and get caught up. The Monday class starts at 1 pm and an improver class starts at 2 pm. I repeat the same dances on Wednesday night (Wet N Wild Wednesday) that starts at 6:30 pm. Come join in the fun and see what we're all about. Please call me at (949) 326-3133 if you have any questions. ~ Janine Rohrbacker, etgrad76@icloud.com e "Gimp" group: Our dedicated dancers show up even while they're recuperating
