54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2023 As you read this, members of the Four Seasons Beaumont Water Volleyball Club are well into our summer season at the Courts, enjoying the sun and warm weather while participating in a low impact physical activity. We play every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 12 pm, and are always looking for new players. All ages, heights and skill levels are welcome. We have many activities planned for this summer in addition to our regular volleyball play. Stay tuned for more information about our big summer pool party scheduled for Aug. 5. If you are looking for a club where you can have fun and laughs with your friends and neighbors, come check us out! And bring your guests along. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. This month we highlight our Club's Vice President Vicki Manderino. Vicki grew up in upstate New York in a little town called Oswego where you either worked in farming or at IBM. Vicki split her time between competitive gymnastics and water skiing. At the age of 12, Vicki placed third in ski jumping and fifth in trick skiing at the Nationals. After graduating high school, she attended Michigan State University receiving her bachelor's in physical education and meeting her husband, Paul. Upon graduating, she auditioned for the dance program at the University of CA, Irvine and was accepted. Paul, Vicki and their two cats moved across country and settled down in Irvine. After receiving her MFA, Vicki was hired by the Newport Mesa School District as a traveling specialist teaching elementary physical education for 22 years. Vicki's love for volleyball originated in middle school and she refined her skills in college, playing in a co-ed league. Talking about the Four Seasons Beaumont Water Volleyball Club, Vicki said, "Water volleyball is the only physical large team sport here at Four Seasons. I started playing five years ago with a small group of residents just in the summer. It is wonderful to now be able to play year-round and 3 times a week! Our players are friendly and fun, and after two hours I am ready for an afternoon nap. We've come a long way since then, adding boundary lines and teaching new players the game, which has improved our sportsmanship. I am so thrilled with the progress I see in myself and others because the better the skill level the more challenging the game becomes. I hope to see more people come out and play with us. We welcome everyone. There is nothing better than to be in the pool playing volleyball, I love it!" For info, contact Mel Harkin at odeegos@yahoo. com. ~ Mike MacQueen Water Volleyball Club Bocce Club Bocce Ball is played at The Summit on two green courts overlooking the surrounding valley with beautiful views. We are still playing Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 am, as I am writing this article in early June. As weather warms, that will change. I will inform everyone when starting time changes. Hopefully we'll see you out there having some fun throwing the Bocce Ball around. If you are interested in learning the game, please join us.
