| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2023 | 15 Line Dancers Line dancing fits in well for promoting all areas of health. You get your body moving, you increase your brain fitness by learning new dance steps and you have fun with other people. Dancing helps to maintain coordination with all parts of the body, as well as learning a sequence of steps. ere is no judgment about anyone's dance ability or physical fitness level, and moving to music puts people in a good mood. Get out of the house, and enjoy the camaraderie! Line dance classes are once a week: Beginner (1): Tuesdays, 10:30 – 11:30 am, $5 Improver (2): Mondays, 12:30 – 2 pm, $7 Intermediate (3): Tuesdays, 12 – 1:30 pm, $10 Want to try it out? Come on by. Beginner's class is 60 minutes. Other levels are 90 minutes. You do not have to be a club member for the first couple of 'try it' classes. Aer that you will also need to join the club. Also, please visit our website, https:// ohccvillagelinedan.wixsite.com/linedancing. ~ Chris Sanderson, Secretary Ballroom Dance Our monthly dances are usually held on the second Friday of the month. e July dance will be on Fri., July 14 in Abravanel Hall from 7 to 9:45 pm. e cost will be $15/member or $20/non-member. e band will be Musicstation. e club sponsors ballroom dance lessons each week on Wednesdays in Abravanel Hall from 2 to 4 pm. • 2 to 2:45 pm - Beginner Class • 2:45 to 3:15 pm - Dance Tips and Techniques for both Beginners and Intermediates • 3:15 to 4 pm - Intermediate Class e cost for the Beginner or Intermediate class is $10/person per class for both members and non-members. Pay at the door (no reservations required, just come). e Dance Tips and Techniques discussion is open at no charge to both Beginner and Intermediate dancers. Carrie Kloss, a champion dancer, and professional instructor provides the dance instruction. She has many years of experience providing dance instruction to all levels of dancers from beginners to dance instructors. e dance being taught changes each month. e following is the class schedule through November this year: July, Tango; August, Hustle; September, Night Club Two Step; October, Viennese Waltz; November, West Coast Swing. e dance being taught in July is Tango. It is a dramatic dance style that originated in Argentina and is popular in the United States and all over the world. It is characterized by sharp, staccato movements and a passionate attitude. Tango is a dance with dramatic flair, using "stalking" and "sneaking" walking characteristics that separate it from the other ballroom dancing styles. Due to its theatrical nature, Tango dancing has been featured in many films. Despite its reputation, the basic dance steps for tango are quite easy to learn. e Lesson Review and Open Practice sessions are held in Abravanel Hall from 2:30 to 4:30 pm each week on Mondays. Marvin and Lynn Wheeler, who are very experienced dancers, review Wednesday's lessons and provide help upon request. Aer the review, you can practice your dancing to a variety of ballroom music. e party is FREE, just drop in. ese sessions are open to all OHCC residents and guests of members. e annual membership dues for the Ballroom Dance Club are $10 per person. With this membership you will receive regular emails describing club activities as well as discounts for dances. To join, just drop your check off at the front desk.
