20 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2023 | By Lynn Williams On May 17, a full bus of shuttle riders were off on a special trip to Liberty Station. I spoke with two of them, Bob and Pam Jones, who were happy to tell me all about the fun time they had. Liberty Station is a mixed-use development on the site of the former Navel Training Center in San Diego. Much of the original architecture is intact, making it an interesting place to walk around. Of course, the very tempting food court was mentioned. It seems you can get almost any type of food you can imagine and it would take more than one visit to taste everything that appealed to you. So, no longer hungry, our adventurist residents were off to explore a building containing three exceptional museums. e Watercolor Museum was especially interesting for Bob since he takes watercolor lessons in our Clubhouse. He was even able to get some pointers from the docents. Second to explore was a textile museum which showcased a traveling show from the Smithsonian. Some unbelievably creative work was on display. Last, but certainly not least, was an immigration museum that, with pictures and videos, told the story of the people who settled Little Italy. All of this, plus the camaraderie on the bus, made for another successful shuttle special trip. ese excursions happen four times a year and they can be found on the shuttle schedule in the Clubhouse.
