42 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2023 | From e Desk Of A Board Member — We end every OHCC Living article with "see you on the trail." But we hardly see anyone on the trail. Having a large membership, we anticipate that several members will be anxious to hike or walk on a ursday or Friday to a trail we have scouted out, the leader knowing what to expect, thus can lead with knowledge. e Board members have met, discussed reasons we think hikes are not attended by double digit numbers of people. If you are a Club member reading this article, we would like feedback from a wide variety of members, telling us what you want in the way of hikes, in the way of walks, and in the way of activities that will bring many of us together. Our annual picnic, in the past highly attended, was not attended well late summer last year. is year the picnic will be held sometime in September on the Palm Court, picnic together with music in the background. is gathering will be announced in the August OHCC Living. We have discussed returning to an evening of dining during one summer weekday, music and a dance floor. We would like members to let us know if you would like this activity, gathering together to dine in a relaxed atmosphere. A survey will parallel this article, asking members to respond to a number of questions regarding hikes, walks, and Club activities. e more feedback we get to aid the health of the Hikers/Walkers Club will be heard, read, and discussed. We want as many ideas as possible. If members care to discuss ideas for the Board, direct them to any of the three following people: Rich Halkyard at redcisc@gmail.com (cell—203-889-8506) Herb Livsey at fstbrk5@aol.com (home—760-790-0605) Lori Smith at lori@westernflight.com We use MEETUP to communicate these hikes and walks to all members. We have added a return to emails for more communication about hikes and walks with all members. With summer months upon us, we will be walking and hiking our beaches. ese will be announced by email and through MeetUp. Hopefully, we will "see you on the trail." ~ Herb Livsey Walkers & Hikers Bocce Club Planning for our annual Casino Night kicks into high gear this month. e Bocce Club has decided to liven up our annual event by turning Abravanel Hall into a speakeasy where our guests with the password will enter in roaring 20s finery. ere will be blackjack, roulette, craps, little plates for dinner and music for dancing. is year's event is Sat., Oct. 7.
