Art Lovers Just as we proclaim thanks on July 4th for our great United States of America, may we also give thanks and praise to the residents of our Ocean Hills community, including the OHCC staff, artistic contributors and our art-appreciating public that make the Art Studio displays so very outstanding! We again thank Patricia Battles, Michael Layne, Malcolm Reinhardt, Bonnie Roth, and Sue Silva for their recent display in the Art ] studio and we welcome the photographic work of the Photography Club for all of you to enjoy in the weeks ahead. 30 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2023 | Art Studio A big group of Art Lovers carpooled to Fallbrook in May to see the 14th Annual Watermedia Exhibit at the Fallbrook Art Center in the middle of old, quaint downtown Fallbrook. In operation for over 20 years, the Fallbrook Art Center building was a former Rexall Pharmacy built in 1961. e Café des Artistes, an art- filled restaurant in the Center, still uses the historic soda fountain equipment and features a wide variety of food and beverages as well as soda fountain treats. e Fallbrook Art Center is a distinguished, accessible, and welcoming nonprofit visual arts center. What makes it unique is the presentation of a wide variety of rotating exhibitions featuring works by nationally, internationally, and regionally recognized artists in a museum style setting with works for sale. Beautiful hand-made articles are featured in their gi shop. Our docent explained that watermedia includes all types of water-based paints e.g., transparent watercolors on paper, acrylic, gouache as distinguished from oil paints. is prestigious show features 100 watermedia artists from all around the U.S. and abroad who hold Signature Level Membership in one or more recognized U.S. Societies. ere is a wide variety of styles in the paintings from impressionistic, abstract to very realistic. All of them are extraordinary. On June 20, esteemed artist and instructor, Kathleen Scoggin shared her multi-media art with us. She is a multiple award- winning artist in watercolor societies. Ms. Scoggin creates abstract art working in watercolors, acrylics and mixed media and is inspired by nature. We enjoyed her presentation. e Art Lovers Club does not meet in July but several events are in the planning stages for the fall. We plan to visit the San Diego Museum of Art's special exhibition of artists Georgia O'Keeffe and Henry Moore. e remainder of the year will include a visit to the Oceanside Museum of Art, some guest artists and, of course, our annual Holiday Luncheon in December.
