| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2023 | 49 What a party it was! Nearly 110 Sailing Club members and friends ate and danced the night away! e club's social director, Laura Carlson, and her all volunteer staff outdid themselves. ey artfully decorated Abravanel Hall turning it into a south of the border fiesta island paradise. Many members and guests came brightly attired. In fact, Cisco Kid was sighted at one of the 11 dinner tables. Aer a few introductory comments during the social hour by the club's commodore, social director, and treasurer, tables were randomly called to the buffet line. ere was a feast of everything from chips and salsa to veggie-trays and tacos, burritos, fried beans, Spanish rice, peppers and onions, all to be followed by ice cream with chocolate and caramel toppings then topped with whipped cream. Many guests went back for seconds and maybe even thirds. It was a bit of a shock that folks were able to dance aer all the wonderful food. Don't worry if you were not able to join us for the Great Fiesta, Laura is already working on the club's fall party which is planned for November. Without a doubt, it will be a party not to be missed! By the time you are reading this newsletter, the Sailing Club's July/August sailing cycle will have started. With all the bad weather finally behind us and 24 new sails scheduled, there will be plenty of opportunity for everyone to get out on the water. One of the big sailing events in August will be four boats going out together, sailing to the Coronado Cays, sightseeing in the channels, and eventually lashing together for a festive group lunch afloat. And let's not forget Sept. 21. e Hal Bolton Memorial Regatta will be held in San Diego Bay. Five or six Catalina 29's will race from Bali Hai out to the tip of Point Loma and back. e sailors will be challenged by shiing winds and currents and, of course, their own skills to see who crosses the finish line first. ere will be some good shoreline vantage points for club members who are not sailing in the Regatta to watch and cheer on the boats and their crews. Each boat will have a Captain, a Mate and three crew members. Club members who are not Captains or Mates have the opportunity to participate as crew members. e Regatta will be followed by an awards ceremony and hors d'oeuvres or a light dinner plate. More will be coming out via eblasts to club members. Sailing Club
