Our Charity Week was a huge success and we wish to thank all the volunteers and supporters who participated in the events. We couldn't have done it without you. All your hard work will be appreciated by the recipients who will receive funds from Charity Week to help them provide on-going services to our community. Summer is here and this month we wish all of you a Happy Independence Day! We begin this month by celebrating with our Fourth of July Independence Day Parade and celebrations in the Clubhouse and on the Veranda. Look for our fliers in the lobby and information on our website regarding all the entertainment and events taking place that day. This event is always a Sun Lakes favorite and it gives all of us an opportunity to celebrate this patriotic holiday with family and friends. We start the day off by looking at all the decorated golf carts as well as the popular display of vintage and newer automobiles. Our opening ceremony is always impressive and after the entertainment and prizes are given out, we look forward to the parade around Sun Lakes featuring our golf carts followed by our vintage cars. After the parade, stay and enjoy the BBQ and music on the Veranda. What a great way to celebrate July 4th. Renee will be providing entertainment for us on Wednesdays at 6 pm on the Veranda so come and enjoy her music. Our ice cream social this month is scheduled on July 10 from 2 to 3 pm in the Sandwedge so join us for some ice cream with all the toppings. Fliers with all the ice cream social dates are in the lobby so mark them on your calendar. Join us on July 27 at 6 pm for our first indoor movie in the Ballroom. Look in the Main Clubhouse Lobby for fliers and on the Sun Lakes website for more information on the movie. Music under the Stars will take place on July 29 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm on the Veranda so gather up your friends and enjoy good food, your special beverages and, of course, dancing to some good music. We look forward to seeing everyone at our events this month. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2023 | 19 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Recreation Advisory The Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Committee collaborates and brings recommendations to the Master Board. In the spirit of Sun Lakes, let's celebrate the Fourth of July — America's birthday and the day we mark our country's independence. John Adams was spot on when he said, "It will be celebrated with pomp and parade, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other." Certainly, here at SLCC, our American pride and spirit is evident. Someone said parade? Ours includes themed golf carts, vintage and classic cars. I hope you have your tickets; if you don't, hurry and get them for Sun Lakes classic All-American BBQ with hot dogs, hamburgers, sides, soft drinks and, of course, the ice cream bar. Don't cook yourself — the clean up is a chore! Bring the grandkids; there will be face painting, jugglers, music, and more. Our beautiful Veranda is the perfect spot to enjoy one of our talented Mixologist Matt's special July cocktails. Try A Star-Spangled Martini, Red White & Blue Sparkler. For fans of Fireball, try SLCC Fire Works Spritzer. All drinks can be made Virgin style. Delight in our weekend entertainment and try something special from Chef Chris's fabulous Veranda Hors D'oeuvres menu. We've been getting rave reviews from the ravenous! Poolside Service: Call and place your order to be delivered. Lobby Bar: Friday and Saturday nights beer, wine, cheese and crackers. Sunday Brunch is offered the last Sunday each month. Reservations always required. Call the Restaurant at (951) 769-6654. Some quotes for my favorite holiday: "We on this continent should never forget that men first crossed the Atlantic not to find soil for their ploughs but to secure liberty for their souls." Robert J. McCracken "We hold our heads high, despite the price we've had to pay, because freedom is priceless. This day celebrating freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die." Dwight D. Eisenhower "Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Abraham Lincoln "You can come from humble circumstances and do great things in America." Condoleezza Rice "Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country." John F. Kennedy "We are privileged and blessed to celebrate and live in The United States of America." ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory
