18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2023 | The Divot Doctor program has been revived at Sun Lakes thanks to Tony Browne of the Men's Golf Club. This program disappeared during the COVID shutdown of many club activities and changes in the Pro Shop. Divot Doctor volunteers spend up to an hour a week on an assigned hole filling divots and repairing ball marks on the green. Divot Mix is available in the maintenance yard especially for those who like to fill up a bucket. Jon Litty and David Amar have agreed to revive this program on the Executive Course. If you are interested in volunteering, let Tony, Jon, or David know and they will get you assigned to a hole. Remember every little bit helps and a lot of golfers doing just a little can make a difference. The Men's Club has encouraged its members to follow the 90-degree rule in going from the rough to the fairway to play their shot. All golfers are reminded to use the gates in entering and exiting the turf around the tee boxes and greens. For shotgun starts golfers are expected to use the streets and not the fairways in getting to your starting hole. If you are not sure of the route please follow a playing partner or ask someone. Any level of compliance we get with these suggestions will help in slowing soil compaction especially with our use of single carts. The GAC would like to thank the majority of members who display the stewardship expected in a private golf course community and remain hopeful that your display of good golf etiquette has a positive influence on those around you. Golf Advisory Safety Advisory Speeding in the community continues to be an issue. Steps are being taken to deal with this and you will be informed when policies are adopted. There will be more and larger stop signs and speed limit signs. Stay tuned. There continues to be issues with resident pedestrians using the vehicle lanes for entry and exit. Pedestrians must use the Pedestrian Gates. All residents have been issued keys for these gates. If you don't have one, contact administration. This has become a safety issue. There have been some close calls. Be happy, smile, respect your neighbors and enjoy every day! Sun Lakes Committee Reports For 20 years, Lifestyles Magazine has been the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80+ pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the MB, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. This month, we feature an intimate portrait of Courtney Taylor, creative director and publisher of the magazine she restyled in 2003. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The LAC meets on the 7th of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost, and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Our committee currently has no openings but always welcome applications to add to our wait list. Lifestyles Advisory
