42 | LIFE IN SOLERA | JULY 2023 |
This is the last in a series of five reviewing the five basic rules of
pickleball.
The last basic rule is very simple. Pickleball can be played to a
score of 11 or 15. You must win by at least two points, or you keep
playing until one team beats the other by two. Here in Solera, we play
to 11. This makes the games shorter. It also gives us a chance to play
with many different players.
Here are the five basic rules summarized:
1) Balls bouncing on a line are considered "in." The only exception
is if it lands on the kitchen line, then it is "out".
2) You must serve the ball underhanded, and it must land within
the square crosscourt to you.
3) Each team must allow the ball to bounce once on each side of the
net before you can volley.
4) Stay out of the kitchen! You cannot stand near the net (the
kitchen) to volley (hit the ball before bouncing) a ball.
5) A game goes until a team scores 11 points (but must win by at
least two points)
Pickleball is highly addictive. It truly is an easy game to learn and
enjoy for active adults. We've had new players come out recently and
they're hooked!
For more information, feel free to contact either Sue Miller at
(503) 702-4273 or Sandy Stearn at (951) 797-0991. We play Monday,
Wednesday, and Saturday mornings. For summer hours, we begin
around 7:30 am, but feel free to come any time between 7:30 am and
9:30-ish. Introduction to the sport is offered to all new players. Come
hit the ball around a bit and see if this game is right for you. We have
paddles to use if you don't have one. Please wear court shoes.
