| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2023 | 33 It was another success in our aernoon FUN GOLF tournament on the Cal Oaks Golf Course links. is marks the first-year anniversary since we launched e Colony Couples 2Ball Tournament in 2022. is event allows for what may seem to be a dismal score card and the least likely team to go from RAGS (highest GROSS score) to RICHES (the lowest NET score). e July tournament proved that to be the case. Congrats to the winning team number 9 for "underscoring" (no pun intended) that eventuality. Are we having fun yet? If you have interest, drop me an email at dmurph44@ verizon.net and I will send you a 2023 tournament schedule (first ursday aernoon of the month) and rules of the game , and I will include you in our active mailing list. Our next contest is set for ursday, Aug. 3. Requirements for this event are to be able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly 4 pm aernoon of fun. I look forward to hearing from you. See ya on the links! Colony Couples 2Ball By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Men's Golf By Sam Currie, 951-461-0801 Congratulations to Kaitlyn Carrillo from Murrieta Mesa High School, the recipient of the CMGC's 2023 Scholarship Award! Kaitlyn is a very worthy winner of this Award, not only on the basis of her excellent golf skills but also for achieving an amazing 4.6 GPA! She is quite a talented young lady, and is also an Eagle Scout and a 'black belt." Kaitlyn will be continuing her education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, majoring in Computer Science. We were pleased to have Kaitlyn's parents join us for our Scholarship Luncheon to see the presentation, along with Kaitlyn's coach, Erin Emblem Ryan. Our thanks to Erin for recommending Kaitlyn for the Scholarship. All of us in the Men's Club are proud of being able to provide these annual Awards, a program that dates back to the early 2000s. As can be seen from the collage of past winners, the program has been a successful one through the years. e Men's Club plays a variety of golfing events each week on Wednesday, including "scrambles and shambles," along with individual play. Why not join us? To become a member of the CMGC, contact George Herrera at (760) 533-0350 for membership information.
