| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2023 | 11 Breathe the sweetness that hovers in August. Remember to be gentle with yourself and others. We are all children of chance, and none can say why some fields will blossom, while others lay brown beneath the August sun. ~ Kent Nerburn It is the month to let go: Let go of the habit of judging yourself and others. If we are judgmental, we stop seeing and accepting things and people as they are. Let go of old pain and memories: It is a time to release what weighs you down and open your heart and mind. ~ K. A. Simran August is a month of new beginnings. Here at OHCC we say goodbye to our grandchildren and great- grandchildren as they return to school. We welcome our friends who are returning from summer trips, and cruises to various destinations. e Clubhouse begins to buzz with activity as classes and clubs begin again. New residents wander our halls looking for a new home and a new place to belong. Reach out and welcome them. Change is in the air. Our library is no exception. For several months our volunteers have been quietly making changes to this very special place where the doors are always open to welcome our new residents. Here is what your volunteers have accomplished! • Tom Murphy has helped us add new shelves behind the counter under the Librarians' Choice racks. ese shelves are now devoted to puzzles. • All of the James Patterson and Stuart Woods books are now housed behind the counter where the coffee table books used to be. Non-fiction and paper backs also reside there, along with Memoirs. • e library is no longer accepting donated coffee table books. Reminders: 1. All reserved books are due two weeks aer the checkout date. 2. Books over 500 pages can be renewed, but the book must be brought to the library for "re-check out" before the due date. ere is a 50 cent fine per day for overdue books. 3. All books from the open shelves, the Librarians' Choice rack and the non-fiction shelves do not have check out dates and no fines apply. 4. A map of the library is now posted on the library website. Finally, we would like to thank Regina Koon who has established the "Aernoons with Authors" presentation series. Our first event was in July, and we hope you enjoyed meeting and listening to Jac Jemz. She is currently working on bringing another author to you in late October or November. Watch for updates.
