Village Vets
Our speaker for our July 27 meeting was Robin Hutton, from
the Camp Pendleton Historical Society, who talked about Sgt.
Reckless and other military animals. Everyone enjoyed her talk
and found it unusual and interesting.
On June 21, we had an off-site trip to Camp Pendleton. We first
visited the Marine Mechanized Museum, seeing M1A1 Abrams
modern tanks, self-propelled artillery and vehicles, and a Ford
Model-T ambulance along with other vehicles used throughout
Marine history. Aer lunch we went to the Explosive Ordnance
Disposal (EOD) Museum. It contained every conceivable explosive
device, both foreign and domestic. With the explosive material
removed, the museum items are used to identify and help the EOD
teams dispose of explosive material in the field, in a safe manner.
e EOD teams oen assist local city governments and foreign
governments on location throughout the world, in disarming
explosive devices. We were all impressed by the intelligence and
enthusiasm of the young Marine NCO's that showed us around.
Everyone enjoyed the outing and found it very interesting.
Our speaker for urs., Sept. 28 will be Mike Welch, an OHCC
resident, with fantastic life experiences. Mike will mainly focus
his talk on his seven years as a Flight Test Engineer at the Air
Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, CA.
Please note there will be no scheduled Village Vets General
meeting in August.
