| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2023 | 17 Sun Lakes Committee Reports The FAC is an advisory committee designed to support the Board, analyze financial information, and to provide recommendations to the Sun Lakes Board and Management Company. These recommendations are intended to maintain and improve the financial performance of the community. This month we would like to focus on a few of the areas of focus for the 2024 budget process. 2024 BUDGET PREPARATIONS: The FAC has been discussing the upcoming 2024 Budget Preparation and will be providing support to the Board with this task. RESERVES AND INVESTMENTS: In June, the subcommittee submitted to the Board a proposed system for planning and managing reserve spending along with the required planning and managing of the investments needed to fund these projects. This tool would initially be developed for 2023 and would then be used to identify all actual planned projects and cash needs for 2024. Identifying and funding a sufficient level of spending to maintain our beautiful community will be very important in 2024. OPERATING CASH MANAGEMENT: As identified by our Treasurer, the operating cash account month ending balance has been drastically reduced since 2019. Month ending bills due have exceeded the month ending operating cash available. The FAC feels that developing a plan to rebuild this account is critical. RESTAURANT, LOUNGE, AND GOLF AMENITIES: Accurate planning for our Food and Beverage operations will be critical. Once the Board and Management have identified a reasonable sales level, the FAC will utilize a budgeted approach for performance goals based on those sales. Budgeting against lofty sales goals will not be recommended without a detailed marketing procedure to achieve stretch sales goals. The same approach will be used for our Golf amenity, Financial Advisory It's summer time and very warm out thereā€¦ so how about spending your Tuesday evenings with your Bingo friends and neighbors in the cool of the ballroom here in Sun Lakes. Come and enjoy the fun, prize monies, and the great food and beverages being served by our very own restaurant and lounge. Food and drinks available with a credit card or SL member card only. There are four great game nights this month - Aug. 8, 15, 22, and 29. We play 12 regular and three special games and guests can play all 15 games for as little as $7 for the whole evening. Many cash and door prizes are won each week. Remember cash only for bingo purchases - no checks or credit cards. Doors open at 4:30 pm, games start at 6 pm sharp and games are over by 8:45 pm. Any questions? Call Toni (951) 769-4579 or Karen (951) 797-3817. Bingo Advisory According to Stephen King, "Books are a uniquely portable magic." We hope you found some "portable magic" to take home and enjoy from our Fourth of July book sale. Thanks to all who stopped by and made purchases! As always, the proceeds are used for the purchase of new books for our four libraries. Speaking of new books, the South Clubhouse library badly needed a refresh so we purchased a lot of mystery and romance paperbacks for this collection. The books are processed and on the shelves so stop by and take a look. Love westerns? We've added some new paperback Walter Johnstone titles to the North Clubhouse. There are jigsaw puzzles for borrowing at the South Clubhouse and North Clubhouse. Puzzles (and books!) are perfect indoor activities for those summer days when it's too hot to venture outdoors. "One benefit of summer was that each day we had more light to read by." Jeannette Walls, e Glass Castle Library Advisory Marketing & Communications Advisory The Marketing Advisory Committee is up and running again and will be providing Marketing and Welcome Home recommendations to the Master Board. At the last Master Board Open Session, Realtor Bonnie Seaver provided sales information including the May median sales price of $350,000, which was a 12.4 percent drop from the prior year. The June Welcome Home event was very successful and 12 clubs were available to connect with the new residents. The next Welcome Home event will be held in September. If your club or group would like to participate and share information with the new residents please contact Jason Ewals in Admin. The Marketing Committee will be collaborating with other committees to determine how best to market their board approved proposals. The newly appointed members of the committee are: Chair, Michele Walter; Vice-Chair, Dorrie Gartzke; Treasurer, Bonnie Seaver; Secretary, Greg Vojtko. Other members are Jerre Blodgett and Bob Murri. The liaison to the Marketing Committee is Beverly Simmons.
