18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2023 | Safety Advisory Securitas is becoming more pro-active in Sun Lakes, continuing to build better and stronger relationships with District Delegates and all residents. The goal is to respond promptly to incidents that are reported. There have been two recent incidents involving missing residents who suffer from dementia. Prompt response resulted in each case with a successful outcome. The individuals were located and returned safe and sound to their homes. There continues to be issues with residents who use mobility scooters when entering through an exit gate or exiting through an entrance gate. This is so dangerous. For those residents who use mobility scooters transponders can be obtained through administration. Also, pedestrians who enter and exit Sun Lakes MUST use the pedestrian gates. We have observed a decrease in loitering, vagrancy, and trespassing into and around Sun Lakes even though the numbers continue to climb in the cities of Banning and Beaumont. Securitas continues to work with Banning Police Department to have trespassers removed from Sun Lakes when reported or observed through closed-circuit TV. Patrol has been instructed to do more perimeter checks and make themselves more visible. The Master Board has approved the purchase of about 100 new and larger stop signs with a reflective border to increase visibility at night time. Most of the new signs will be replacements of existing signs. The Safety Advisory Committee will make recommendations to the Board for placement of new signs on the main streets here in Sun Lakes. I think you will be pleased with the appearance of the new signs and they will be effective in controlling traffic patterns and slowing down speeders. Banning PD has agreed to make random drive-throughs in Sun Lakes to increase visibility and act as a deterrent to would-be trespassers. As always, report any suspicious activity first to 911 followed up with a call to our security team. Thank you, remain vigilant, and drive defensively. Sun Lakes Committee Reports For 20 years, Lifestyles Magazine has been the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80+ pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the MB, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The LAC meets on the 7th of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost, and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Our committee currently has no openings but always welcome applications to add to our wait list. Lifestyles Advisory Greetings Sun Lakers! July Fourth was an exciting and fun day for our community and their families who attended. The Golf Cart Parade had creative and beautiful entries. Vintage cars were a treat to go back in time when life was simple. We had one glitch with the power going out, but Sun Lakes staff and volunteers were quick to adjust and continue with plans. Sun Lakes friends and family stayed and enjoyed their hamburger and hot dog with music, and a magician continued to perform his magic tricks at the tables and entertain kids and adults alike. We were still able to have face painting and have balloon fun art and a balloon toss contest. Thank you, Sun Lakers who attended, and those who participated in the parade. For those of you who are considering joining our committee, August and September is that time of the year to look into completing an application. The RAC meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 pm. You are welcome to attend any of our meetings. Your new ideas and thoughts are welcome. For more information about upcoming events, check out the flyers in Main Clubhouse Lobby or log in to the SLCC website and check out the Lifestyles Magazine. ~ Gloria Pena (951) 210-0802 Recreation Advisory
