Please keep remembrances to 400 words and include one recent, high-resolution photo. Patricia Velda (Peek) Whiteside March 2, 1930 – June 6, 2023. Pat passed away peacefully on June 6 with her daughter Trudy at her side. Pat was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and traveled to Los Angeles at the young age of 17. She took a job in the Payroll Department of Certified Grocers. Little did she know at the time, she was about to meet the love of her life: Robert C. Whiteside (Bob), not at the water cooler but when they accidentally (on purpose) met at the time clock. Pat planned this meeting when she noticed this cute guy in the IT Department with dark wavy hair who captivated her. Sure enough, they started dating, fell in love, and married in 1964. A happily ever after story. They both continued to work at Certified Grocers and branched out to Real Estate, remodeling and flipping houses. They eventually purchased an apartment complex in Arcadia, California, where they lived until 1990, they both retired and moved to Sun Lakes. Bob loved being part of the Sun Lakes Barbershop Quartet and they both learned how and created beautiful stained glass which they proudly installed at their Sun Lakes home. Pat also had hobbies she loved. One was sewing, and the other was creating very detailed needlepoint art. She and Bob enjoyed traveling and especially cruising. Together they visited Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean Islands. The past several years after Bob's passing, Pat spent most of her time keeping up with and enjoying her beautiful, serene backyard gardens as well as playing cards and games with visiting neighbors and friends. Pat will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. Forever in the hearts of her daughters, Trudy and Mary Lee, and the absolute loves of her life, her doting grandchildren Kimberly, Michael, and Christopher. The very hardest goodbyes are the ones we don't get to say. Together once more, may Pat and Bob rest in eternal peace. Virgil Irvin Massey April 27, 1929 – February 11, 2023 Virgil Irvin Massey passed away peacefully at home in Banning, California on February 11, 2023 at the age of 93. He was born in Lane, Illinois to William Arthur Massey and Opal Shaw. He graduated from Nixon Township High School in Weldon, Illinois in 1947. Virgil served in the United States Army from February 1951 through November 1952 with active combat duty in Korea for over 11 months, earning the Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Campaign Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal. In addition to working on his parents' farm during his early years, Virgil spent a lifetime working as a carpenter for small, independent construction companies in both Illinois and California, as well as working at the Caterpillar plant in Decatur, Illinois. In 1972, he worked as a carpenter for the County of San Bernardino Maintenance Department, where he was promoted to maintenance supervisor, retiring from the County in 1987. Virgil met his late wife, Ann Elizabeth Whittam (who passed away in October 2022), at the Elks Lodge in San Bernardino, later working on her mountain home in Crestline. They married in 1995 and soon moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they lived for 18 years before relocating to Banning, California in 2015 to be closer to family. Virgil is survived by his daughter, Linda Sevison, his son Dana Massey, his stepdaughters Claudia Oyster and Libbie Gerenday, his stepson John Whittam, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
