If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and a way to increase flexibility and balance, then Tai Chi exercise may be just what the doctor ordered. Originally, Tai Chi was developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise. Some describe it as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It is especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. e benefits of Tai Chi may include: decreased stress, improved mood, increased energy, improved flexibility, balance, and agility, and improved muscle strength. OHCC offers a free Tai Chi class each Tuesday and ursday, 9 to 10 am, in the Abravenal Hall. Each class is led by a video presentation that lasts about 45 minutes. Regrettably, though, I must announce that OHSC's Hal Bolton Memorial Regatta has been canceled. With so many of our members vacationing, just leaving or just returning, it has been difficult to arrange crew for five boats all on the same day. Let's offer a big thanks to our Fleet Captain, Charlie Cappello, and his team of Captains and Mates and the many OHSC members who have completed 39 sails though July. With 13 more scheduled in August and 24 planned for Cycle-4 (September and October) the club will surpass its goal of 70 sails for the year. Without a doubt there will be other sails to follow in November and December which are likely to bring us over 80 for the year. Of course, our Social Director, Laura Carlson, and her hardworking volunteer army of helpers are busy planning the club's Fall extravaganza. ere will be more information to come regarding the grand dinner and dance party in the days ahead. Our club membership now numbers 250 of which 90 are new members this year. I am sure the numbers will continue to grow as the year continues. A hearty welcome to all our new members. Fair winds and following seas to all! ~ Skip Maniscalco Sailing Club
