Way to go Dave! at's definitely a hideous t-shirt! Late August found us walking South Carlsbad Beach to the Batiquitos Lagoon. Anyone joining us will experience the great outdoors that San Diego County gives to us. An excellent hike follows: the Veterans Trail at the Crossings. is writer mentions these trails because they are representative of the activities planned throughout the year. Club President Rich Halkyard plans, outlines our hikes and walks, a Board member experiences the trail so that as leader he/she is familiar with the terrain mapped out. Every hike or walk has a leader and a trailer, all very safely completed. Addition to our hikes and walks, a nearby restaurant is suggested, with many of our people joining together at the restaurant for brunch or lunch aer going on the trail. In September a highlight is joining the walk in Escondido to raise both awareness and funds to support research to cure Alzheimer's disease. You can join our OHCC team — Anne's Amblers— in memory of Anne Schabel, beloved wife of Jack SHABEL, long time member of our Club. Anne, too, was a long-time member of our Club, said oen we should rename our Club Hikers/ Walkers/ Amblers, because she liked to amble along, observe her surroundings. We lost Anne to this deadly disease a year ago. Just today this writer received a note in the tube about the death of Syd Backman to this disease. Residents, his wife Katherine will be walking with all of us in Escondido also; she has organized "Syd's Team." It will take all of our efforts to help find the cure. As Katherine said, "it is so important to find a cure for this disease". e walk will take place Sept. 23 at Kit Carson Park. Free parking and clean restrooms. Our group will gather aer the event at BJs, 204 E. Via Rancho Pkwy, Escondido. All walking for Syd's Team are welcome to join people from our Club. Recently the San Diego Union Tribune published a separate read entitled the best of San Diego. e hike chosen by this editorial Board is the Guy Fleming Trail at Torrey Pines State Reserve. is hike/walk will appear in our September schedule. Our annual picnic, usually held at a park in Escondido, will be held this Oct. 5 at the Palm Court, catered deli sandwiches, beverages, dessert, piano music in the background. All for $5. What a deal. More on this during the month of September. Join our Club. You will not regret the fellowship you will experience with us. Go to the front desk in the Clubhouse and place a check in the Walkers/Hikers envelope. Rich will get back to you. ~ Herb Livsey/Vice President Walkers & Hikers
