As we reach September, we are rounding the final turn and heading into the final stretch. Just like in horse racing, we won't know the outcome until we reach the finish line. For the Pass Action Group, the finish line is the hearing with Judge Harold Hopp on Nov. 17. Judge Hopp will review the previously submitted Administrative Record, all briefs, and we anticipate, ask the attorneys for comments. After the hearing, a ruling will be handed down by Judge Hopp. We do not currently have a timeline as to when we may get the ruling. I would like to list a few dates and statistics for the community to recognize the journey we have all been on since Oct. 26, 2021, when nearly 200 met on the Veranda to discuss what we all had just heard about, a 620,000 square foot warehouse to be built across the street. December 2021 – Planning Commission votes 3-2 to allow project and approved the parcel lot change and Design of the project. Contracted with an attorney immediately thereafter. February 2022 – Appeal to the City Council to throw out Planning Commission approval. The Council voted 4-1 to allow the project. In addition, they made amendments favorable to the developer during OUR appeal. The one dissenting vote was our Council Member for District 3. It is widely held that the vote was an attempt to "save face" in Sun Lakes. The process to file the suit began immediately after this meeting. Suit was filed with hearing date noted above. There have been two Thanksgivings, two Christmas/Holiday seasons, two New Year's Eve celebrations. You see where I am going with this. During this time the Pass Action Group and many volunteers have helped keep the fight alive. There have been nearly 100 Board meetings, casual meetings, events, protests, fundraising, and a half dozen town hall meetings that averaged over 250 people each. It may seem like just a slogan to some, but it is something I believe in: "It Takes a Community the Save the Community." I love Sun Lakes and am proud to be part of this community. Normally this article is written in third person as a group, but I wanted personally to sign this one and say thank you to all. ~ Randy Robbins, President, Pass Action Group Wed., Sept. 27, 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh invites you to attend a Banning Neighborhood Town Hall.
