50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2023
This is the
perspective of
the artist of the
month, Janet
West: "I had
always wanted to
draw and paint. I was looking
into taking classes at a local
community college when we
moved to Four Seasons and
discovered the Mixed Media Art
Class taught by Rob Kelman, on
Mondays and Wednesdays. Rob is
an outstanding teacher!
"Every new student starts by
drawing an elephant, a landscape
and then a structure in graphite
before students' progress to try
any other style of painting or
drawing that moves them. These
three pictures are part of the
Complementary Color challenge
Rob gave us. We had to draw a
picture in each of the contrasting
colors: Purple & Yellow, Blue & Orange and Red & Green. The dinosaurs were done in watercolor paints
and watercolor pencils. I started this series using just watercolor pencils and have since branched out to
watercolor paint. These dinosaur pictures commemorate a family trip to the Moab Giants in Moab Utah
and my love of these prehistoric beasts. If you ever have had a desire to draw or paint, come to the class."
Rob can teach art to anyone. All you have to do to be successful is make an effort and commitment to
keep practicing.
Classes are Mondays from 10 am to 12 pm and/or Wednesdays from 6 to 8 pm. There is a nominal $5 fee
per person, per session. If you have any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman
