The simple answer is the District Delegate and the Alternate Delegate are elected officials who represent the residents of their District. The more complete answer is that the District Delegate is a leader who governs a District in all aspects of its existence. The scope of the elected position comes from the By-Laws and CC&Rs of Sun Lakes Country Club founding documents. That is the legal path of the District Delegate and Alternate Delegate. The practical operation of a District is made up of many chores. The Delegate must be an organizer, a leader of his or her fellow residents, a party planner, a treasurer, a good note taker, an answering machine of all questions, and probably much more. The Delegate is a volunteer who is elected to keep their residents in touch with the community at large. When people move to Sun Lakes Country Club, a senior HOA, they move into a community of rules and regulations. The District Delegate is the conduit where questions and answers and information goes both ways. If the Delegate is not aware of the information or answer, they know where to find it. All Districts have an Alternate Delegate, Zone Captains, and others to help and advise them. They organize events, such as dinners, potlucks, brunches, golf tourneys, breakfasts, meetings and so on. It is wonderful to have a staff meeting of the District and have everyone contribute to the organizing of an event. Most Districts have a Social Committee. Together with the Zone Captains, they plan the schedule of events for the year. There was a time when each District had five or six events each year and the attendance was great. Now we have two or three Districts combining to stage an event and it is difficult to get a decent attendance level. The District Delegate Assembly is the "official" recommendation group to the Board of Directors. In the past, the Assembly has recommended various Advisory Committees, traffic improvements, lifestyle changes, rules and regulations. They have made surveys, distributed questionnaires, assisted Advisory Committees; assisted the Board of Directors in a variety of requests. The District Delegate is truly a representative of his or her District. We sincerely hope that when your Delegates complete their commitment, that you are interested enough to follow in their footsteps. We always have a need for leadership, whether it is the Board of Directors or the District Delegate positions. Over the years, Sun Lakes has thrived on the number of volunteers wanting to help our HOA.
