64 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2023 Ladies Putters The warm summer weather has brought out more ladies joining our group. Besides being low-impact, our group is a high-fun and social activity, and the best part is no experience is necessary. Over the months, we have seen many of the ladies consistently recording lower scores, which is a testament to their desire to improve. Our Bi-Annual Potluck and Awards event always has a few surprises since we often add special categories to add to the fun. If you would like to come out and join us, we have extra putters and balls. Our 9-hole putting green is located at The Courts, behind the pool area. Our putting days/times are Mondays at 4 pm and Fridays at 9 am. For more information, please contact Bonnie Brown at (951) 337-0833 or Elaine Brown at (626) 589-9791. ~ Phyllis Kates TOPS The TOPS group (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) discovered something new about weight loss. In an article called "Hacking Our Happy Hormone." It explains that many studies have shown that happiness can help you live longer. It is not just a state of mind, but starts in your body. Positive feelings from exercise, eating a favorite food, or laughing cause your body to release serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins. You can fool your body into thinking you are happy more easily than you think. Putting a pencil into your mouth pushing the corners of your mouth out to the sides, and biting down, simulates smiling. Your brain thinks this is a true smile, and releases happy hormones. Our group tried this, and seeing each other with that goofy smile made us really smile and laugh out loud. Practicing gratitude and generosity have been proven to generate similar levels of dopamine and serotonin as exercise, food, and laughter. Smiling and saying hello to fellow residents while dog walking, or walking from the parking lot into The Lodge can activate your happy hormones. You may find that a group like TOPS can help you as well. We meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. For more information call Andi Henderson at (918) 497-6491. ~ Andi Henderson
