| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2023 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Our committee is comprised of residents with varied skill sets and business backgrounds. We research, observe, and collaborate. Our focus is making Sun Lakes more enjoyable for all while improving revenue. Fall is in the air. Enjoy visiting with neighbors and friends in the Lounge or newly-remodeled Sandwedge. Try Matt's change-of-season cocktails: a "Falling For You Martini" — think luscious caramel vodka, apple cider & fresh apple, yum — served in a racy martini glass or on the rocks in a bucket; or the "Autumn Mule" —Jameson, garnish, and ginger beer served in the traditional copper mug to maintain the chilling temperature of the Autumn Mule. Nov. 1 is National Calzone Day. Our very own Chef Chris is from Naples, Italy, where the Calzone originated in the 1700s as a way to serve people a pizza that they could walk around with. Calzone is an Italian term that means "pants" or "stockings." The fillings are exactly the same as used for pizzas. National Calzone Day was founded and first celebrated by a pizza restaurant in Kansas City for their 40th anniversary in business. Foodies all over the country have been observing this holiday ever since. Chef Chris has created delicious, genuine Calzones. Come and enjoy! Nov. 4 is Greek Night, one of SLCC most-raved-about and highly- requested annual events. Get your tickets early. You'll feel like you're in beautiful Greece for the evening enjoying delicious Greek food and drinks, listening and dancing to a live Greek band, enjoying the entertaining Folklore & Belly Dancers. Thomas and family will immerse you in all the beautiful cultural delights of Greece. Nov. 11: SLCC Annual Veterans Walk, honoring all those who have served the United States of America. Nov. 23: Chef Chris has once again put together a bountiful Thanksgiving buffet feast served from 11 am to 2:30 pm. You can enjoy traditional turkey with all the trimmings. In addition, there will be carved prime roast beef, stuffed pork tenderloin, plus pumpkin pie, and an array of tasty desserts. Adults are $36.95 plus tax and gratuities; children aged 5 to 10 are $18.95 plus tax and gratuities; children ages 4 and under are free. If you want to celebrate at home but don't want to cook a big meal, you don't have to. Just call and order your dinners for pick up on Wed., Nov. 22 between 11 am and 3 pm. Order meals with both white and dark meat and traditional sides, including pumpkin pie, for only $19.95 plus tax and gratuity per meal. Warming instructions will be included; all you need to do is set your table, serve and enjoy. Gratitude is one of the most powerful human emotions. Once expressed, it changes attitude, brightens outlook, and broadens our perspective. Thanksgiving reminds us to first thanks, then practice giving. Gratitude turns what we have into enough. Don't forget the Sandwedge Bar & Grill's Special Breakfast' $9.99 Tuesday – Sunday, 8 am – 2 pm. Enjoy all your favorites plus cinnamon pumpkin spiced pancakes. We are looking forward to lots of wonderful holiday events as we near the end of another year and December kicks off with our Annual Tree Lighting on Dec. 1. Do you have food industry or related experience you'd like to share? Our Interest Form is in the Main Clubhouse lobby; just fill it out and return it to the reception desk. Our Restaurant and Lounge are here for you. Come out and enjoy the atmosphere and camaraderie of your friends and neighbors. SLCC spectacular Brunch always the last Sunday of the month. Reservations must be made in advance for all events by calling (951) 769-6654. "Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." Until next month, be safe, thankful, and happy living in our beautiful Sun Lakes Country Club. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Master Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the Restaurant, the golf pro, and advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The Lifestyles Advisory Committee meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director to be updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a Restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby.
