32 | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2023 | e tournament on Oct 12 rostered 11 foursomes with 44 golfers vying for first place position in the "A & B FORMAT" competition. e tournament was somewhat competitive, some fighting for top honors and some fighting for the bottom honors. e winning teams in both "A" and "B" flights found themselves on the leader board when all the dust settled. It was a surprise to many that they actually "came in the money" for the event. e most important outcome was that we all "had a great time" on the links, with good weather and good friendly competition wherever the scores landed. Overall, the low score was 47.667 and many strokes in between to 55.612 posting an eight-stroke separation. Good laughs were in abundance as the cards were placed in the "Styrofoam" score card collection box, never to be seen again. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions: Winning Teams "A" Flight 1st: 47.667, John Comeau, Linda Peterson, John and Anita Hoetker 2nd: 50.667, Ron Brown, Debbie Johnson, Leo Pasco and Peggy Clendenen 3rd: 52.667, Larry Determan, Vicki Cornille, David and Donna MacLagan "B" Flight 1st: 45.814, Rich and Bea Brown, David and Pat Bailey 2nd: 46.620, Jerry and Pat Caldera, Ed King and Barbara Keen 3rd: 47.814, Terry Lundquist, Sue Jordan, Leo and Karen Alonzo Closest to the Pin #5: Women, Denise Sturm – 14'0" / Men, Terry Lundquist – 14'0" #15: Women, Annette Lalicker – 3'8½" / Men, Bruce Dalfonso – 8'1" #16: Team #12 Jerry and Pat Caldera, Ed King and Barbara Keen – 5'6" e Darwin Awards again went unclaimed. Jack & Jill By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 951-461-0065 I hope everyone had a happy anksgiving, it's my favorite holiday. ere is so much to be thankful for, especially the friendships here in e Colony. Our November luncheon was lots of fun. Our Rules Chair, Ann Hartwig and Tournament Chair, Debbie Johnson handed out a Rules Quiz for us to do and we went over each one as some have changed. Tricky questions and it was interesting to go over some of the rules. We enjoyed a delicious chicken enchilada luncheon and birthday cake to celebrate special birthdays (see photo). We also collected food for those in need for anksgiving and are donating food items to the local food pantries. Most of the ladies that are on the Board will continue to stay in their positions for 2024. A few changes were made. e 3rd quarter ringer monies were passed out to the A and B flight winners in the 18-hole group. We have lots of fun tournaments each week for the 18-hole ladies and the 9-holers. We continue to tee off at 8 am through December and in January, we will start at 8:30 am for three months. We hope you will consider joining us. e Ladies Golf Club wishes everyone a very happy holiday season and a safe, happy and peaceful new year. e Birthday Girls (L-R): Annette Lalicker, Dottie Hodson, Shilela Spradling, Connie VanderByl
