46 | LIFE IN SOLERA | DECEMBER 2023 | What is WiFi Calling? Recently, some people suffered from a cellular telephone outage on the Verizon and Spectrum systems. Although the service was down, did you know you can still make and receive calls? All cellular telephones, both Apple and Android, have a feature known as "WiFi Calling." Having this feature toggled "On" will allow your telephone to continue working in an environment with a weak cellular signal or no cellular service. (with some limitations) Wi-Fi calling is a technology that allows cellphone users the ability to make and receive phone calls over a Wi- Fi connection. It works similarly to regular cellular network calling, but instead of using a cell tower, it routes the call through your home Wi-Fi network. This also allows users to make and receive calls in areas with weak or no cell coverage. To use Wi-Fi calling, your phone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network, have an active SIM card inserted in their telephone, and Wi-Fi calling must be enabled by your network provider. All the major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile) offer Wi-Fi Calling. To enable Wi-Fi calling on an Android phone, you can do the following: 1. Open the Phone app 2. Tap the three-dot button in the upper-right corner of your screen 3. Tap Settings 4. Tap Calls 5. Tap Wi-Fi calling 6. Turn on Use Wi-Fi calling To set up Wi-Fi calling on an iPhone, you can do the following: 1. Open the Settings app 2. Tap Phone 3. Select Wi-Fi Calling 4. Toggle the slider next to Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone 5. Tap Enable in the pop-up message Here is a video that explains the feature and explains how to turn on the feature: https://youtu.be/srd0lekiauc?si=C66oRep8QWGj4TUK TRIVIA ANSWER FOR NOVEMBER: Question: The portion of the FM dial between 88 and 92 MHz is usually reserved for what type of station?
