| LIFE IN SOLERA | DECEMBER 2023 | 5 Thank you to all the representatives of our Clubs and Groups for attending our Social Gathering on Oct. 25. For the new residents of Solera between April 1 and Sept. 30, we hope you enjoyed talking with the Club and Group representatives about their activities. There were 24 new residents who attended the presentation of Living in a HOA. We hope you found value in this presentation and have a better understanding of being a member of our association. I would like to extend an offer to our new residents who were unable to attend our Social Gathering in October. This is particularly important to the new residents who have not lived in an HOA before. I would like to meet with you and go over the presentation of Living in an HOA at your convenience. This information covers the following: Articles of Incorporation, Laws which we must follow, how our budget is formed, how your association assessments are spent, Design Review Guideline questions, responsibilities of the Management Company, the Board of Directors, and the residents of Solera, and answers to your questions. You may contact me by email mac-extra@msn.com or leave a message at (951) 769-6144. Another option is to attend our Social Gathering in April 2024. The ambassadors of this committee have met with 63 new residents between January 2023 and October 2023. They are dedicated to making sure our new residents are welcomed to our community. The Welcome book provides information about our association, forms, Community Rules, Design Review Guidelines, Clubs and Groups, and valuable information from Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District, FEMA, Riverside County Health Department, and the Red Cross, and much, much more. Thank you to our ambassadors for everything they do to make our new residents feel welcomed in our community. We have completed our 13th year of presenting Welcome books to our residents. You are an amazing group of valued volunteers. ~ Marcia Casem, Chairperson, New Resident Welcome Advisory Committee Welcome Committee Solera CERT Cadre Over the years, our CERT training schedule was based on the needs and desires of the cadre of adult learners. This year we are changing our methodology to prepare residents for resilience after a disaster event. Our schedule will still cater to the resident interests, but this year our schedule will be published on the CERT website (https:// www.solera-cert.info). In addition, the training day topic shall be announced in our monthly articles. These training sessions occur one the third Friday of each month at 9 am. The location for the training will be the Oakmont Clubhouse in the Arts & Crafts Room. Here is the 2024 CERT training schedule: Jan. 20: "Resolve to be Ready." This year's resolution may be to better prepare for a disaster event. Learn about planning using technology and building a resiliency kit. Feb. 17: "Keep Food Safe After a Disaster." If you are in a disaster or emergency, it's important that you take steps to prevent illness from eating unsafe food. March 18: "Pet Preparedness." Most of us understand the need to be prepared for the possibility of a disaster. Have you included your pets in that plan? April 20: "Discovery Tips." Reduce your stress after a disaster by having access to personal financial, insurance, medical, and other records. May 18: "Disaster Psychology." After a disaster, physical assistance may be only part of what survivors need. Disaster-induced stress and trauma relief may also be required. June 15: "Summer & Extreme Heat Preparedness." Extreme heat is responsible for the highest number of senior distress cases among all weather-related hazards. July 20: "Golf Cart Fires." The most common causes of home fires in a golf cart community are golf cart chargers and improperly maintained batteries. Aug. 17: "Stop the Bleed." Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as five minutes. Sept. 21: When & How to Shelter in Place." In an emergency, local officials may tell you to "shelter-in-place." What that means and what needs to be done. Oct. 19: "First Aid, CPR, and AED Refresher." Reviewing necessary skills to survive after a disaster or during everyday life. Nov. 16: "Home Fighting & Prevention." With the holiday season comes chaotic cooking sessions and assembling electrical devices. Be prepared for potential fires. Dec. 21: "Do You Have a Plan?" When a disaster or emergency happens is not the time to prepare. Creating a household escape plan and after-event recovery plan. Written by Ray C. Gayton-Jacob, coordinator for the City of Beaumont/County of Riverside CERT program at Solera. https:// www.solera-cert.info 2024 TRAINING SCHEDULE For Seniors By Seniors: Take responsibility to protect your life!
